There have been members here I would see and I would think I have never seen them before because I do not recognize them. But they have been here for a while like two years and I never even taken notice in them and then all of a sudden I finally notice them. I remember for a while I thought sallamdrina(sp) was a new member here and all of a sudden she was a mod but I was shocked to see she had only been here for two years when I looked at her join date. Now I realize I may remember her in the past, I think she had some avatar of some painting and it was a woman in it that looked like from the 1500's.

There was another member here just recently I got into a disagreement with and I looked through her posts and saw she has replied to one of my posts in the past and my my my have I forgotten about her until she caught my attention. But she had only been here I think since April.

Cute kid.

I don't seem to notice who posts what unless they do something to stand out in my mind. I read topics that catch my eye, which means I miss a lot I'm sure. I do have certain people who I enjoy hearing what they have to say that will lead me to going under their usernames and take a look at their recent posts. Most of the time I would describe myself as being rather selfish in that I like to goof around a good bit and I tend to drag the conversation towards what I want to discuss. Other people seem to more interested in connecting with people and making friends. I seem to find that hard to do in pixels.

The thing that surprises me most isn't that I don't notice certain people, but just how people seem to start one week and then the next time I look they have a few thousand posts seemingly overnight.

It happens to me often. When I see an unfamiliar member name I tend to take a glance at their posts (moderator curiosity  ) but sometimes get caught out to find they've been a member for several years and have a post count in the thousands!

The most recent was someone called Heckler?? and my first thought was "that's a curious sounding name" but on checking he/she had been around for ages, I'd just never noticed them.

Another thing that happens is that members disappear for a year or two and come back again.

I also get caught out if someone changes their avatar after having the same one for a long time too - like Verdani the other day.

I get this when people change their avatars. For example, Verdandi changed her avatar and I kept thinking it was a new member, but when I looked at her name, I realized who it was.

I love your avatar.

I've noticed that I don't notice people after they switch to a different avatar after using the same one for a while. I also have a hard time noticing people who don't have avatars.

I wonder if I go unnoticed when I change my avatars.

I always notice because you keep the same theme - The Kinks.

Some member names blur into one with me, all those like Aspie??? with a number or bit tagged on the end.

Yeah, I still notice you. Same goes for League_Girl, I think it's because you guys don't usually change your avatars very drastically. (Like me changing my last avatar of a cactus to my current one)

I was away for some time, and now it is confusing when so many have changed their avatars. And I guess some have changed their nicknames, too.

Quite a few times, yes. Couldn't give specifics though.

I find it strange that people have a problem with recognition after members change avatars...I do not have this issue :?
In any case, I notice almost everyone. When I see new members in the introduction threads and they post elsewhere, I usually recognise them quite easily. However, I did used to get confused with names, and occasionally avatars.

Yeah, some people suddenly seem to pop into existence.
