I tripped over yesterday and banged my foot on the edge of my bed, resulting in a very painful broken toe.

It's now all black and bruised and I can't put any weight on it. The doc wasn't much help, he just strapped it up and told me to rest.

Does anyone know how long they take to heal and if their is anything I can do to speed up the process?

Jacs, first to wish you a speedy recovery, I've broken many things over years (apart from records) but one thing is certain, all our bodies heal at different rates, I heal quickly in general but you may not, nature just takes it's course.

Maybe 3-6 weeks. I think rest is all you can do really. If it's any consolation I had a broken leg recently which took nearly 5 months to heal ! That involved about a month of learning to walk again and my leg muscles had all seized up.At least with a broken toe you can still excercise your leg to some extent, but yes it's a drag not being able to do the normal things.
Hope you recover soon.
