I heard that the correlation between candy and zits is a myth but some people swear by candy as to the causes for their breakouts.....

What do you think, should I warn the kids about the side effects of candy before passing them out on Halloween?

I know i've heard chocalate can cause zits, not much about candy in general.
But, the skin condition side effects of candy are low on the totem poll of problems caused by eating too much candy =P. Maybe hand out little sample sized things of clearasil instead of candy =P.

does candy lodge bacteria, dirt, sebum and other nasty stuff in your pores and then your body sends your immune system after it to fight it off?

No?

Then no.

I wouldn't say candy per se. But I can see how a junk food/high grease diet would be liable to make you 1. more unhealthy in general which includes your skin and 2. to have more oily skin

*shrug*

Heh. You don't need to warn them, they are less likely to have break outs at that age to start with. I don't find it mythful in my body. It doesn't start a break out, it makes it worse. I think sugar might do something to certain bacteria I have in my blood, or whatever. I use anti bacterial body wash on myself, it lessens the break out, but they still pop up everywhere like I was a teenager. .. -.- sigh

Maybe they do. My diet's not the healthiest and I get the occasional zit, despite my skin being extremely dry.

Don't bother warning the kids, though, let them have their trick or treat fun. Worse things can happen than acne.

I actually run a test with my daughter, because I noticed a relationship between chocolate and her zits. Every time she eats chocolate she gets zits. When she does not she might get one or two black heads, but that's it. My sister in-law says she cannot eat chocolate because the same happens to her. I do not think it is a myth. In our case, it is a fact. I do not know if the same happens with other candy, because my daughter does not like candy, only chocolate.

I think people with too high body acidity have acne. The clue's in the name. Alkalising by eating lots of greens seems to help. Sugars cause acid production, so they'd be likely to exaccerbate zit production in sensitive individuals. Same goes for carbs and meat. You see people who live on junk food often have awful skin, but not always, some people seem to be able to throw anything into their body with no ill effect.

i don't believe a link has been demonstrated thus far, but it seems reasonable. there definitely is a proven link between dairy products and acne though.
