Any other UK aspies here experience problems with them? I used to at school but not so much now. For any americans and other non-UK people browsing, they're people who basically try and act "macho" and "gangsta"

Do you mean ne'er-do-wells, minor criminals, thugs and morons? A lot of people have a problem with them.

Not all chavs are scum, and certainly not all scum are chavs. Not all chavs are underclass either.

I realise that, but I'm talking about the hoodie/thug kinds. Not all chavs are scum I know that for a fact, I should have added that really :/

But I'm talking about the thugish moronic ones that gather in groups outside chip shops and shout abuse at random people.

They're everywhere to a certain degree; just known by another name.

Do you all have an equivalent to places like Compton or Harlem in the UK?

A lot of the reason that people like that are a big problem - they attack all kinds of people, not just people with Asperger's - so basically people with a job, the physically disabled, older people, fat people, young people, men with girlfriends - is because the State has basically abdicated its responsibility to the people. Deal with them yourself though and the State comes down on you like a ton of bricks.

No, but we have housing estates that no outsider would dare venture into; the sort of places where life is made difficult for anyone they deem to dislike.

"Housing estates" are provided by the government, correct?

For non-UK members; Charvers (AKA Chavs, Neds) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chav

I've had the odd run-in, but considering I grew-up in council housing including two areas largely populated by charvers, I've largely gone without much trouble from them - at least not directly, my next door neighbours fight and play rave music till 6am and keep trying to kill each other in the middle of the street...glassing each other, etc. I get the occasional verbal abuse when passing the local pub, but that's it.

In high school I once had a house party, it caught the attention of some particularly nasty charvers from further up the street, they came into my home and up into my bedroom...at the time I was a Marilyn Manson fan, posters of him all over my room, so here was I thinking they were going to kick my head in...nope, one had a cousin who was into Marilyn Manson, they even started singing some of his songs. Along with this I started running a lot of parties, which were often gate-crashed by these charvers, so I gained some favour with them and thus wasn't as badly bullied as I could have been towards the end of high school.

I'd venture Mosside in Manchester as a possible contender and maybe the London borough of Tower Hamlets or some crappy part of central Nottingham

Yes, there are whole towns and even areas of the UK (South London, Merseyside, parts of the West Midlands, considerable parts of North West urban areas like Rochdale, Dewsbury, Keighley, quite a bit of North East England, the West of Scotland and much of Northern Ireland) where a majority of the population don't and have never worked and just live off the State.

Living in da Moss is not that bad now. Many places in Manchester are worse.

Tower Hamlets is hell though - and the Gorbals.

And parts of Oldham are really deprived.

I've never been. Do they really have Northern Irish-style separation barriers there?
