OK, I've offended the Iranians and Israelis in "what do you like about..." So I am opening this thread.

We used to sing ...

We're a pack of bastards
Bastards are we
We're from Australia
The *rsehole of the world

Only Aussies are alowed to say anything derrogatory.

I love our military history/tradition. We have been helping England out of trouble since the Boxer Rebelion (with the Canadians & Kiwis) and long before the USA. (OK I've offended the pommies too).

Last week was Long Tan day (our Vietnam Vets day) remembering our biggest battle in Vietnam (Long Tan was one of the greatest victories in the history of warfare and the NVA never attacked us again).

Ignoring me, what do you like about Australia?

The movies..."The Last Wave" and "Picnic at Hanging Rock"...are they Australian?
Koalas and Eucaliptus(which I am literally addicted to)
Men At Work
Vegimite(what the hell is it???)
"That Dingo ate my baby".....very sad....

I like...

+ How we eat our coat of arms;
+ Shrimps on a barbie;
+ Catching yabbies;
+ How we can blame everything on Tasmanians due to their weirdly-large heads and 15-surnames-for-100,000-people population;
+ The gorgeous coastlines and sunsets;
+ How it's legal for us to both DRINK and VOTE at the same age;
+ Emus;
+ Kelpies;
+ Red dust;
+ "Lantana".

@krex: Yes, "Pinic At Hanging Rock" is an Australian film, and probably has claims to being the best Australian film ever made.

Coat of arms is kangaroo and emu. Usually only in restaurants. Never seen it with vegemite.

I've eaten kangaroo. It's basically a tougher steak.

I love quite a lot about Australia. I would do, it's the country I was born and raised. America scares me. 8O

The only other place I would ever call home would be the UK, although I haven't been there yet. But Australia is one of the better places in the world to live.

All of Australia's wonderful creatures:
That can kill you.

Even picking up seashells.

(I've been there twice and had no personal trouble, though my neighbours had a four-ft snake trying to get into their tent at Alice Springs).

You may have had an over-bounced one. Mine wasn't that tough but was quite a rich taste.

But water-buffalo: now that was superb. Tender and flavoursome.

Vegemite is a dark food spread made from brewer's yeast extract. It's dark brown, very salty, and mainly used on bread. Speaking of which, I love vegemite and butter on bread.

Kangaroo is a very lean meat, and you are supposed to eat it rare or very rare. It's easily overcooked.

I've not have kangaroo [although I regularly feed my dog with kangaroo mince] but I've had emu. Emu tastes just like chicken :lol:

Other things I like about Australia:

+ The Great Barrier Reef [snorkelled over it, was good];
+ Bungle Bungle;
+ Didgeridoos;
+ Monkey Mia, where you can say hello to wild dolphins [I've fed and patted one].

Vegemite is disgusting! Yuck. I haven't eaten it since I found the vegemite on one of my sandwiches had been invaded by ants. Monkey Mia is booooring. There's some great beaches up there, though. I personally love the AFL. That's what I like most about Australia. AFL just rocks.

8O How could Monkey Mia be boring? 8O

Granted, though...the only real attraction there are the dolphins. Still made the place interesting for me :lol:
