I left a few forums I was fairly active in the last few months. I left one because the community wasn't rite for me & I was not rite for it; I was unintentionally causing problems & some members were quite b!tchy. I left 2 that I had been very active in for quite a while because I felt I outgrew what the communities were about; some of my post started being kinda wrong for em & some newer members thought I was a poser so I felt it was in mine & forums best interest for me to leave before there were problems. I left the last a couple weeks ago because of problems with one troll having multiple accounts; it was a dating site & support group kinda thing for people with mental issues & the admin not only refused to do anything about the trolling but he even personally approved of the troll to create a new profile with an almost exact SN as one lots had been reporting; I left because I felt that kind of trolling was giving people with mental issues a bad rep & I did NOT want to be part of it. It had been a great site till the admin started condoning trolling from one member. Only forums I use now besides a couple Miranda Cosgrove fan sites are WP & Men & Autism forum. The Yahoo messenger friends I had from the forums I left hadn't been on messenger much sense I left those forums. I don't think they're mad about me leaving but maybe we have less to talk about sense I no longer use those forums. I've been more bored, a little restless & more lonely online lately as a result. I got a little more active on WP but I think I need more variety; something different in addition to WP that isn't about autism. I'm not really sure what I want thou. Maybe I need to do something else online unrelated to forums but I'm not sure what that is either. I am trying to get more active offline but there isn't usually much going on; a couple people who talk about wanting my help with things keep putting it off; people sure love to string me along for some rezone. I'm not really sure what I want to do about anything. I'd like to make some more friends & find a girl-friend but dating sites are NOT my thing. Anyone have any suggestions about anything :?:

How can you be bored? All the Sherlock Holmes episodes with Jeremy Brett are on YouTube.

But seriously, yes, it gets boring when you try to use forums to reach out to people and you realize that it's not really helping with that. I don't know what else to suggest. Everything I do online is just one big distraction from the loneliness.

I never watched Sherlock Holmes. Most of what I know about it is from the hollodeck program in Star Trek TNG. I've been watching vids lately but I'm quickly bored with em. I know this post may sound like I might have some form of minor depression but I've been a lot happier lately. I'm bored & lonely because of my life circumstance I think. It was like this for me after I got out of high-school & I got depressed & started acting like a disturbed psycho for attention(look for my recent post in Members section) I want to get interested in something because I do NOT want to go that route again.
I seem to go through phases with forums. I get addicted to em for a while & make friends & stuff but then things change & I start getting bored with em & maybe even burnt-out & I either become interested in it again after a bit or I join something else. I'm not sure what other kinds of forum communities I'd want to try thou

I know what you mean about going through phases with forums. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve registered on a forum, posted lots of messages for about a month, and then lost all interest and never posted again. I go through phases in general, not just with forums, where I’ll be obsessively interested in something for a month, lose all interest for another month, and then be interested all over again the next month.

Like I said, everything I do online is just an attempted distraction from the boredom and loneliness. I get so listless in my real life because there’s just nothing there – no friends, no job, no love interest, no activities – that I desperately seek out connection online, and posting on forums is only temporarily effective.

Part of the problem is that my real life situation doesn’t allow for much. I’ve been unemployed since 2004 due to my AS, and as such I’m 27 years old and still living with my parents like a goddamned high school student. I have no money and I don’t even have my own transportation. (I recently moved to a new city, and I suppose I’ll learn the bus system here soon.)

Lately one of my obsessive interests has been taking up golfing, but that requires two things I don’t have: money and an ability to approach people socially to seek out lessons. So I sit here like a dork watching golf instruction videos all night on YouTube to load up on information I’ll need if I ever manage to get the money needed and overcome the basic inability to even talk to people, even though I suspect it won’t be happening any time soon.

As for Sherlock Holmes, of course I’m a fan of the original stories, but you don’t have to be to enjoy the TV show. It’s great. If you have a Netflix account, they’re all available for streaming, but users on YouTube upload them there as well. Here are links to a few of the better episodes, if you’re interested:

A Scandal in Bohemia: Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Part 6
The Speckled Band: Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Part 6
The Final Problem: Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Part 6

most people are on online forums because they have no social life, the few that do are attention whores and want the people who genuinely have a problem to pay attention to them so it makes the people who have problems feel wanted

you'll defintley know who these two groups of people are

i've tried to stay offline on purpose or design because it just isnt worth it to me anymore

I relate to your real-life situation Jory. I haven't worked in 3 & a half years because of physical disabilities. I've been putting in apps but I only had one interview in that time. I live in a rural area; not much around me for a few miles & I cant drive because of my vision so I'm dependent on my parents to go places. Parents say I need friends so I would have more transportation options & I do want friends but there aren't many places to go & make em even in the nearby towns & cities except bars, sports things, work, school & church. I will watch a couple of those Sherlock Holmes eps tonight or next day or so & if I like em; I'll try to bootleg em(I'm a pirate & rather not watch shows on YouTube).

I'd like to meet people with problems richardbenson. I didn't have anyone I could really turn to for emotional support & things most of my life & it was a big help for me the one time I did & I could not help but fall in love with her. I'd like to help others if I can & maybe I'll find a girl who will like me in the process. Not sure what kinds of things to look for forums on thou. I have some very immature interest so maybe something geared towards young adults & teens

I’m lucky enough not to have a physical disability (except for how my AS often makes me physically sick and uncomfortable), but my social anxiety is just as crippling mentally as a gunshot to the spine is physically. It’s funny, because I have no problem interacting with people once I know them, but I absolutely cannot approach people at all. When a fast food restaurant gets my order wrong, I have to throw it away and go to a different restaurant and order again because I can’t just walk up to the counter and say, “Excuse me, but...”

I lived in a rural area until recently, but I’m now in Oklahoma City, and I hope the bigger area will get me out more. But even if I have the means to get around, what good will it do when I can’t even pursue my interests? I’ve lived in big cities before (the biggest: Minneapolis), and aside from having more places to go (bookstores, coffee houses, restaurants), I don’t remember life there being much different than living out in the boondocks. Crippling social problems will follow you around like a poltergeist.

PPR?...there there, that is a lame forum

You don't seem like a poser (though you do string a pose in your avatar  )

I HATE yahoo messenger forums, seriously, they are ret*d. I signed up for autistic girls....spam about pictures...I joined a sorta self-harm group, more spam. The only one that was sorta good was the vegetarian one, but that was too much for my inbox and I never read them anyways.

Ok, seriously, go to experienceproject.com I was on that site before WP and I was addicted. It has questions to answer, you can write stories about yourself and people will comment on them, you can message people, you can comment, there are games.. it is SOOOOOO much fun. The only thing, is I started to talk to too many people 1 one 1 (whereas I try not to PM too much on here) and my parents didn't like that. If you want, I can help you find friends on EP too. I know some really nice people one there that if you friend request, they will be your friend. Also, it will also be good for you because you are not a girl, and there are a lot of pervs on there, so you can make friends with girls so long as you don't have a billion sex stories on your profile. I truly can say that was one of the best sites I have ever been on, and don't hesitate to ask, and I'll give you the names of some of my closest friends on there. In fact, I think 1 or 2 of them might even be your age. Btw, I am obsessed with the internet, so if you do decide to go on there and ever have questions, come to me.

Is it like web forums or is it kinda like a social site :?:

It is a social sites, but it is multi-faceted, so it is not completely social.

I'll explain it like this:
You have profiles and you can become friends with people
On those profile you put what you have "experienced" per say.
So for instance...I am a runnner, I would join the group "I am a runner" or "I like to run"
Then I could write a story about running.
That would go on my profile and also the group page.
There is a wall for every group page that could be viewed as a forum.
Then other people might see that group and think, I'm a runner too, and join obviously.
But, they'll see all the people on that group, and might want to be friends with all the runners.
So it will show you what you have in common with people too.
It's really neato!

I don't do well with social sites. I'm not good at messaging people 1st, writing stories/blogging or commenting on others. I'm a much better post replier. Thanx for the offer to introduce me to your friends there but I don't think I'll join. It sounds like a large part of the site is focused on making friends. I do a lot better when I'm less focused on making friends & am mainly focused on posting; friends come in time. Also it's easier for me to be myself with people a lot younger than me than people my age or older.

Oh, if you really don't want to, but let me say one more thing. You don't have to message people first, a lot of the groups have things to reply on, and I don't know what to say about commenting. Actually, a large part of the site is focused on peoples stories , otherwise known as "experiences". You don't even have to be focused on making friends, you can just post stories and eventually people will start commenting on them. Finally, there are people of all different age groups on there.

I'm a bit bored and depressed online because I haven't seen anything new to buy on amazon. Doesn't look like there will be many good books coming out this summer, and with the way I read, I'll finish the ones I bought in the spring before long. Hopefully I find something good soon.

I'm not that good with stories; I tend to skip over long post because of concentration & focusing problems. Plus I'm better at giving advice & support when it's focused on a couple things instead of a long period of issues over someone's life. I'm not really sure what I want thou so maybe I'm so bored & restless that things aren't interesting to me. I really need a girlfriend to spend time with but it seems highly unlikely that find someo0ne anytime soon

Oh, me neither, I just skim to see if it's relevant to me and then put a comment on it that makes them think I thought about it.

So, I'm confused. Because you want to interact or not? From what I've seen, websites (that you can interact on) are set up a few ways:
*the basic social networking site: has games, a wall, and a way to make friends
*the tricked out social networking site: has all that stuff, plus quizzes, and a way to personalize your profile, plus other things
*the basic forum site: it just has forums and threads, and maybe a way to contact other people, usually has point totals
*the more advanced forum site: like this one, it has all that stuff, plus extras

You are saying that you are bored of this site (which sometimes it can be, and sometimes not)...but you've ruled out the 1st and 2nd options? Because, those are the best for meeting people on...in my opinion.

I don't know what else to say if you are against all social networking sites, because those are made for social networking.

Also, if nothing seems interesting, then maybe it is time to pick up a hobby, maybe you have become sooo bored of the internet that you would like to interact with people, but you don't want to be on the internet....or am I just restating what you are saying?

If so, I think you should pick up a hobby or something, that's what I've heard anyways....

Well good luck in your quest! I know my uncle found someone through an online dating site, but they still aren't married (though he's proposed 3 times) and probably won't ever...but that's because she is annoyed because he is the jokester type all the time and she is a teacher. Point is, they are older than you, and it could be worse off. Good luck, Idk what else more to say?
