I read this sign outside my local church today. I have been hearing statements like this for years.
"You don't need money to be happy." etc etc
Look, maybe i am very cynical but i just cannot agree with these type of statements. For a start off, I struggle to find anything that money won't buy.
Love? How many homeless people do you reckon have love? Very few i would imagine. Because in order to be loved you generally need the things and/or the circumstances to put you in a position to be loved. Without money you cannot have those things/circumstances
Kids? If you don't have money to support and look after your children, they will be removed from your custody by the state.
Intelligence? Only worthwhile if you have the resources to utilise that intelligence eg: training to get a job, clothing to make an impression. Resources cost money
Health? I would be healthier if I could afford organic food. If I could afford to have a nutritionist prepare menu plans, a fitness plan etc. it is a rare person that never suffers any health problems and at some stage money is going to be necessary to fund a health issue.
The longer I am around, the more difficult i find to maintain the financial obligations that is required to maintain just a normal standard of living. and i know many others whom are affected like this. I know this sounds harsh, but in my opinion love, kids, health and intelligence are worthless if you haven't got the money to support, nurture and develop these things.
