Do you jaywalk?

Do you, for example, cross diagonally at a crossroads (instead of using the crossings at the four sides)? Or walk over a crossing before the green man or WALK sign appears? Or cross near (but not at) a crossing? Or anything like that?

What's the attitude towards jaywalking where you live? I get the impression it's fairly well accepted in the UK, while I've heard the average New York City resident jaywalks something like 20-30 times a day. Other countries are much more strict on jaywalking.

Do that fairly regularly.

I'm too cool for walking so I run red lights and do the California roll at stop signs.

Only if the road is completely empty with no cars in sight.

I might jaywalk on a neighborhood street where there is no traffic (though when I do, it magically creates traffic), but if the street is at all busy I follow the rules. Where I live most people are surgically grafted onto their cars, so I can't say how most would act as pedestrians. but the most common error I observe is crossing back from the corner, rather than in the actual crosswalk. In a way this is encouraged, because that's where the bus stops are, and people cross directly to the bus.

If traffic's heavy, I'll use a crosswalk. If there's no crosswalk nearby and traffic is light, I'll jaywalk.

Because obviously walking over a crossing when the lights are still red will make you trip up and blow your hat clean off your head!

Where i am from, jaywalking is the national pastime. EVERYONE does it but the police want to crackdown on it. You cant live where i live if you cant jaywalk right.

Looks like a KMFDM album cover.

I'm a little confused about the message. Don't jaywalk, but if you do, watch your step?

And if I'm going to jaywalk, I'll make sure to do it far enough away from any cars that they won't hit me if I do trip.

Haha...

I do that all the time, although barely ever when the cars are too close by. Not particularly because I'm afraid of getting hit, but because I don't want to risk making the drivers get frustrated.

I don't think people care much about it, here in Sweden, although I don't exactly socialize much with other people.

I also thought jaywalking was something different; at least in the US. In the US, isn't jaywalking when you stay around a business place for a too long time, without having any business, there?

Sure I do it all the time. If a cop has a problem with it then he can kiss my a$$ needs to find a better hobby.

That's loitering. Jaywalking is crossing the street in between pedestrian crossings.

I wait at busy streets, or downtown. I really hate to see people leading their young kids out through traffic, 15 yards from a crosswalk.
