I know that nobody probably cares about what I purchased from the flea market today, but since I had a really good day after weeks of trauma from the bad stuff that happened to my family I thought I'd post about it in the random discussion board. :)

So anyways my family went to the flea market today and we were each given $20 to spend on whatever we wanted. After looking around I decided to buy a few things I thought were cool:

First I purchased a really cool necklace from this stand that sells all kinds of jewelry, crystals, and figurine statues. The necklace I purchased had a black string and a metal pendant carved into the shape of a nude woman with long hair surrounded by flowers. The reason I decided to buy it was because I'm really into greek statues, and the design on this pendant reminded me of those nude female statues and carvings you see on a lot of greek artwork.

Then I purchased this DVD called Ju-On which is a Japanese horror film about a ghost family that kills anyone who enters their home. I usually don't buy DVDs or video games from flea markets because often times they are scratched up or damage, but this one seemed to be in decent condition and since I already have Ju-On 2 I thought I'd might as well own the first film too.

And last with the little bit of money I had left I purchased two large glass diamonds to display on the shelf in my bedroom along with the third glass diamond I purchased from a gift shop about a month ago.

One of the coolest things I saw at this flea market was a stand that was selling baby turtles. They even had a baby albino turtle that looked almost orange and white. I might would have purchased one if my tank wasn't already occupied by my hermit crab. :P

So yeah, I had a really peaceful pleasant day with my Mom and sibilings and I just feel like bragging about it a little. :)

I most definitely do care :D I envy you :D I'd love to be there too - in my country flea markets aren't popular :( We have just ordinary fairs and flea markets are places where you can buy also used, second hand stuff, unlike it is at fairs. I'd love to buy some used books, for example :) In my town we don't have even a second hand books store and new books are so expensive in ordinary bookstores :(

Wikipedia claims that:

The origins of the term are disputed, but according to one theory the Fly Market in 18th century New York City began the association. The Dutch word Vlaie, or vlie, with the v being pronounced f, meaning a swamp or valley, was located at Maiden Lane near the East River in Manhattan.[10][11] The land on which the market stood was originally a salt marsh with a brook. By the early 1800's the "Fly Market" was the principal market in New York City.[12]

The phrase "flea market" is also a common English phrase calque that literally translates the French "marché aux puces" ("market where one acquires fleas").[13]

I've only been to three flea markets in my life. Two were about the same size and one was kind of small, this one was one of the two that were about the same size. So yeah, I guess you could say it was a big flea market. :)

Also that's a pretty interesting fact as to why they're called "flea markets". :P

I've never been to a flea market!

But I do enjoy garage sales. :D

Flea markets may be a rarity in Poland but as for garage sales - here they remain totally unknown :(

That's rough....maybe you should have a garage sale of your own, haha.

I live in a block of flats so it would be hard to find a place to put my things :) (Well, maybe behind the block?). Anyway, it would be really weird to do something like this here, even apart from the fact I rather don't have things I'd like to get rid of :D Just some old and worn off clothes and used toys and children's books :D
