Now people treat the notion of adulthood differently than they used to back in the past (and as it is still done in primitive societies even now): even people in their twenties - sometimes already well in their twenties - are often called girls and boys 8O In the past and in primitive societies now, when you weren't a child, it meant you were an adult and you were treated like one by the community - with all the privileges and expectations of adulthood, starting your own family including. People in their early teens were expected from as an actual adult would be, so they thought about themselves as about very young but already adult women and men and behaved as ones.

Only in the legal sense. Turning 21 does not automatically confer maturity, which is one of those things that has to evolve instead.

Warning. "Tough love" coming.

I started working full time at age 16, moved out of my parents home at 17, got married at 18, and on my 22nd birthday I purchased a house. This was all on my own, with no financial support from anyone. But growing up with nothing toughens you.

Welfare & food stamps didn't cover 6 kids very well for my divorced mom, so growing up I learned how to dumpster dive & beg for food. I didn't like my home life & abusive stepfather, so I worked my ass off to get out of there. My apartments were unfurnished for years except for a few things I found on the streets for free. I lived off of ramen noodles and rice for years, but once and a while would give myself a treat and spend the extra money for macaroni & cheese. I worked my ass off with multiple jobs while finishing high school and paying my own way in college. I have physical problems that require durable medical goods, but when I moved out I had no health insurance so I had to pay for doctors and all of my medical supplies with cash. I got my gf/wife pregnant, but knew I couldn't afford to raise a child properly, nor was I mentally ready for one. So we put the child up for adoption. I'm officially diagnosed with depression, asperger's, and PTSD along with several physical problems.

So when I hear you complaining how your mom won't let you go live in a flat they own, complaining about your dad's reaction to a temper tantrum you threw, and complain about being picked on by your younger brother, what do you expect me to think? Why are you there?

No matter how much "it's not your fault," you choose to stay there. I understand you can't afford to live on your own right now, but that just means every minute you are not sleeping you can be working, looking for work, in school, or at the library learning something that you can use for a job. Don't be at home throwing things when your dad gets home. Don't be around your brother if he abuses you. And if you take offense to your father telling you that you are extremely autistic, prove him wrong. Don't ask your parents to support their adult son. Get off your ass and man up. Take responsibility for your own life. That's maturity.

That is unless of course you are extremely autistic and are legitimately disabled in which case your parents should be looking into some type of adult assisted living facility for you. But I doubt that is the case.

It may be that Aspies especially the younger ones tend to be childish & immature. I know I am; I'm 28 & I watch iCarly & listen to disney pop music

Well, since you asked...

It's rather obvious. Not only do your posts often lack a readable grammatical structure, but they also seem to indicate a lack of reason as well. The way your posts are written are exactly like that of a child.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but sometimes the truth hurts. I'm sure some people here would probably think the same about me, especially considering how hypocritical I am being right now. I look back on things I posted on the internet years ago, and I'm amazed at how much of a fool I made of myself.

I'm a 36 year old 60s type Mod who has the mind of a 21 year old. I picked up where I was at the age of 21 before I went all psychotic and delusional, the year after when I saw the first Austin Powers movie. I had to back track to get myself back to where I should be and I've removed 12 years of garbage. You know the old saying, "Garbage in, garbage out!". I will probably be very youthful for the rest of my life, but it's worth it! :)

Oh great another if I can do it anyone can! post. People have different levels of functioning, not only that they could also be suffering from various other disorders which makes things like getting a job VERY difficult.

Man up? really? I loathe this saying. It's really nothing more than fear mongering. I'd rather women up to be be perfectly honest.

For one, probably they are unaware that you have Semantic Pragmatic disorder and I notice you completely sound out the words. Try a spell check.

Maybe download a grammar program that will tune your posts a bit, if you are bothered by their comments. But I like to see the real person post. I understand this "condition," and I read through the 'thought disjoint' to get to the center. I'm after the function, and forget the form, is my motto.

The "maturity" will come with experience, as Fnord said.

Hang in there.

Maybe by the things you say or how you process things. Maybe the way you handle things.

I haven't paid all that attention to your posts so I wouldn't really know to form a valid opinion.

Parrow, I am going to be honest with you. My respect for those who preach responsibility is diminished right now. Here is why. I think that most of them are very vague, ambigious, and condescending and all they do is give cliched and hackneyed phrases which mean nothing.

You on the other hand provide more detail with specific examples of what you did. You do not sound condescending. You do say

Quote:
Get off your ass and man up. Take responsibility for your own life. That's maturity.

You have concrete examples to back this up.

Bit harsh.
I try not to have preconceived ideas of someone because of their age but more by what they say.

Also Sammi you forget as well that my parents could be doing A LOT more too help me out with the situation regarding me and my brother. they could be getting him a daytime job so he would not be in the house during the course of the day bossing me around and causing me higher levels of anxiety and stress. Instead my parents refuse too do anything and make excuses too why my brother needs too stay at home like a baby and not work. My brother works in the eveing from 6 untill 9 delivering pizzas but that leaves him plenty in the day too make my life hell and also some days he travles quite far too see some friends so i may not see him for 5 or 3 days.
