The lady who I go to when I get a wax(I always go to the same salon, and the same lady), says I would look very good with my hair a little shorter, and if I dyed it darker. I told her I've always wanted like solid black hair, but my mom doesn't let me do it because she says I'd look too old. She looked very suprised when she said it'd look very good on me, that the reason the ends look so dry is because of my hair color that does not reflect the light too much. Since she said it, my mom agreed.

Well, I do want to get my hair dyed, but there's a problem. Whenever I go for her to trim my hair a little bit, she always says that it's very long. It's not really that long, it only reaches about half way down my back, but there's no way to get it to grow faster. She says it will look very good if she dyes it, and trims it to maybe around where my bra is, and does it in some layers. Now, I really really want my hair to grow long and with no layers so I can wear long braids. And I'd love to get it dyed. It's the trimming I'm so worried about. I have an appointment for next Wednesday, and I'm so nervous. I'm like preparing myself, thinking that I will have my hair trimmed. Or perhaps if it includes a trim, I shouldn't do it at all. I'm just awfully nervous. I mean, I know hair grows back, but still, trimming. And if it looks like a lot?! But I really do want to dye it. I'm wondering if may be I can convince her to not do the layers or the trimming, and just the dyeing.

Your mom's the one paying for it, isn't she? Convince your mom.

I'm growing out my hair right now, because I had five inches trimmed off two weeks ago. It's grown another centimeter, but it's not long enough.

It's your hair and your (or your mom's?) money - if you really don't want it to be trimmed, tell her that you just want the dye for now.

Don't let her push you into getting hair cut off, especially if you really want it to be long.

I hope she is. I'm still mad at the last time I went to get a wax, and she decided to get it, too, and I ended up paying for both. When she said it was my turn to pay, I agreed because I thought it was just for me. If I'd known it was for both, I wouldn't have paid. I'd have purposely misplaced my purse so I couldn't find it. So she'd better be the one paying!

If you have your mind set that you don't want your hair cut or layered, it's your hair and they can't make you cut it. BUT, I used to be the same way with my hair, no layers, long, more than half-way down my back. Then my hairdresser convinced me that I would look good with layers and I loved it. When I got sick of keeping up with my long hair, I started getting it cut shorter and shorter, until last December when I got it cut pretty short with choppy layers and I love it. Best hairstyle I've ever had, and I plan on keeping it like this for a long time. It's so low maintenance, I don't have to yank out tangles every day anymore.

So, in summary: if you want to keep your long hair, no one can make you cut it, but you might like having layers.

If you have or know someone with a photo program maybe you could see how you would look with dark hair. As for the hair cut. My daughter loves her hair long. She has layers because it is so thick. It takes a lot of weight off without it being short. I would suggest just doing maintenance (cutting split ends) if your worried about the layered look.

If you dont trust your stylist not to convince you to do layers or not to cut off too much. Then just have her dye it, and go somewhere else to cut it with a clear understanding that you wont let the other stylist cut it because she gets too sizzor-happy.

Anyway, I just got my hair trimed, but she got sizzor happy with my hair and cut off 2 inches more than I would have liked her too, my split ends were very minimal cause I trim them soon as my hair begins to tangle.

I will find another hair dresser next time.

You should always just trim your hair yourself. When the ends get too dead, just cut them off. But you need to buy hair scissors, they have to be quite sharp. This is the best way to grow your hair long, and braid it every night. That works as well.
