When I was 13, I was made to feel abnormal about my interest in the Transformers. The whole foster family complained that I watched the movie twice and not in succession, either.

Just wondering if you think it was normal for a 13 year-old boy in 1986 to like the Transformers.

Question seems vague.

I used to have a interest in watching My Little Pony's. That didn't go over well.

So I'll just answer, yes?

Okay, when I was 13, I was in a foster home and they kept telling me that I shouldn't like such childish things and asked if I thought fully grown adults had interests like Star Wars and the Transformers.

I guess I'm thinking that 13 isn't too old for Transformers. 15 might be pushing it.

Guess I'm looking for validation in thinking they were wrong about a lot of stuff. Like when they were drunk, calling me a reject...

anyway...

I think if you were thirteen and not into Transformers at the time, then people would have thought something was wrong with you. But what do I know? I wasn't even alive in 1986.

There's nothing wrong with anyone of that age being into Transformers. And I was alive in 1986. I was 13!

Your foster parents were numpties.

I was never into Transformers, but there are lots of adult fans (well above 13 years old) of the series, the films (original and new), and the toys. I would say that your foster family were clueless.

When I was 13 I had an obsession with Pokemon cards. I'd say transformers would be a cooler interest in retrospective.

Transformers seems like an age-appropriate interest for a 13 year old. Sounds like your foster family was giving you a hard time.

Solvejg, the scene where he is running down the middle of the street in town is actually in Flagstaff, Arizona (1 1/2 to 2 hours from here). My sisters friend was one of the runners behind him (although not visible).

I never watched Transformers but I think that's quite normal for 13year-olds to watch at the time. I was watching Beavis & ButtHead when I was 13 & my parents thought it was very inappropriate. They were rite but I don't regret watching it.

Of course!

It wouldn't be abnormal for a 53-year-old to be fascinated by Transformers.

What is normal anyway?

No such animal. Live and let live!
