This is the first salamander/newt I've ever seen in the wild

Wow, cool. The salamanders around where I am are always brown or black.

I wonder what the evolutionary explanation for that color is, since it looks almost florescent orange, like road cone!

All of ours are a greenish brown. I used to live on farmland next to a creek where they were everywhere though. My sister and I would just wait for a rainy day and catch a bunch of them. I think we had about 30 of them one day. None as lovely as those guys though. :)
