It seems like WP members are making their own ASD forums, and they're popping up like moles in Whack-a-Mole.

Why?

I think it's bad to have a "monopoly" of sorts with most forum topics, but over 9000 little forums with <40 members (and like... <15 active ones) are showing up all over.

All I can think of as a reason is that the people making them want "administrative power" of sorts. So they make their own forum no one goes to.

Unless someone can explain it better...

Some wish things worked a little differently, and rather than trying to change a well established site like WP, they make their own.

But why do they keep coming here, then?

I hope I'm not coming off as hating on the people who make them; I just don't understand why they do it.

They do it for many reasons.

Some want to know what it feels like to be an admin
Some don't like aspects of WP
Some are just copy cats.

Mine is only there for an addition of my site. It doesn't really get much love. It's not a focal point.

It's hard to stay away from an extremely active community ;)

Think of all the posts you miss out on otherwise!

Some people don't like the rules here so they may go and create their own forum with their own rules.

Yep. Plus, it's hard to grow a new site when you withdraw from active communities that may be interested in it.

Also, WP has a very diverse membership, and that gives it a flavor of it's own.

Hm, if you're referencing me I'm disassociating myself from this place soon anyway.
Mine is part of my own endeavour.

Alright - might be me being blind but I haven't seen too much else out there that would make you come out with your OP!

In the case of the forum Men & Autism http://menandautism.com/ which I advertize in my post sig & was recently made assistant mod on~ the admin is an ex WP member who felt that WP had some resistive rules & that certain things were kind of unfair to men here. He wanted a forum where men & women were more free to talk about issues & things related to men

If you are referring to the Board I made, that is stemming from the success of the Facebook Group. I noticed as the group grew, it started to develop it's own culture of sorts, and I decided to make a Board that catered to said group.
