In case you're wondering, Dr Stephen Juan authored a series of popular science books on the human body, including "The Odd Body", "The Odd Mind", and "The Odd Sex".

I recieved one of his books for my birthday from a friend of my mother's. I was appalled to find an article on Asperger's that claimed that it was a "criminal condition" and those with it felt no normal emotions, and were thus more likely to commit crimes.

We (me and my mother) corresponded with Dr Juan (ie gave him curry) until he apologised. However, goes to show what little sense a Bachelor's degree and a PhD can confer, even if it's from the University of California in Berkeley. Anyone else offended by his books?

I would be more appalled that I got a book. I need new underwear and socks!

It maybe true that ASD people do infact break the law more but I answer it like this:

1) Crime in my opinion is a function of 4 things:
a) Youth
b) Testosterone
c) Poverty
d) other

Being young and a male makes you much much much much much more
likley to commit a serious crime than say a 40 year old women. I was arrested twice
(at 13 and 17).

Now the other factor in the case of ASD is simple if it delays social skill my biologic
age and my IQ may have been high but my maturity level was many years behide my
peers. I was told at 17 I was in some ways going on 30 and in some ways going on 5.
So thats back to the fact young men commit crime at a much higher rate. If your young
at mind your young.

But lets keep this all in the proper frame. Most people do not commit serious crimes and
most aspie do not either. Even if an aspie is twice as likely to commit a crime thats
still very small percent of aspies.

Never have been arrested. Nearest I got was being given curry by a security guard at Dreamworld for doing the finger at the cameras on the Tower of Terror (something which, while I did many times beforehand, I never did again), and being falsely accused of shoplifting at one of my favourite secondhand bookshops, when I had done nothing wrong, and had extracted an apology from the owner. (One of his staff thought I was doing something suspicious)

Oh, and I've had to pay two parking fines.

That's baloney, i've read in other books about Aspergers that they are less likely to commit crimes and more inclined to follow the rules than Neurotypicals are.

Agreed. Some people think "I should not steal from my neighbour's house, but hey they've got something I don't so I'll do it anyway", while most AS people think "I should not steal from my neighbour's house so I won't do it."

This actually occurred a few years ago. However, yesterday I was in an extremely bad mood and decided to take it out (indirectly) on Dr Juan because I still have not forgotten (or truly forgiven)what had happened.
