Disappointed in my Macbook pro---viruses
Sorry I needed to rant. I know it's probably not a good time with Steve Jobs recent death. But the thing is I don't have a lot of money and recently splurged on a Macbook pro at Best Buy. Before that I had only had expose with linux (great but not many apps) and Windows (I had a very cheap notebook). And the thing that gets me is that one of the reasons I bought it is because the guy at Best Buy said that one of the reasons I should get a Mac was because they do not get viruses. Okay, so that was actually a big reason I purchased it (in addition to security reasons). Further I installed the recommended Trend Micro virus protection on it. And right now (just a few months or so into my purchase) I'm encountering a lot of what appears to be viruses bc it freezes/etc and requires restart before it works again. I use trend micro to scan however and it always comes up with nothing. Can someone please engage in this rant with me or help me in what perhaps I may be doing wrong?? Because to me it's a blatant lie to say Macs don't get viruses from my experience (which is what he told me). To be honest, I love the apps for my MaC so far but what's the point if the machine is only a couple (internet browsing) months away from crashing even with virus protection and I lose all my setup/data/etc. Okay, well for that I DID set up the Time Machine. However, even with that, it's tricky and time consuming to be like (ok, at what point in my systems history do i need to revert to avoid the crux of this s**t....which is merely just trial and error)......halp!! !
The sales clerk lied to make a sale. Every brand of operating system can, and does, get viruses, because the creeps that make the viruses don't discriminate, although they do like to trash Microsoft most of all.
Have you updated your virus program? This must be done periodically, and can be done online. Also, go to Komando.com for good, free anti virus programs. Kim Komando is a computer and electronics guru, who has a 3 hour Saturday radio show and web site. She helps a lot of people with their PC and electronics problems. In my part of the country (western NY state), she broadcasts on 820 AM on Satudays from 10 am to 12 pm. The station dropped the third hour a while back, and the other show they gave the hour to is lousy. Kim Komando also has repeat broadcasts at other times and on other days/nights/stations. I occasionally hear her on other stations at night, when changing stations. She takes calls during her normal broadcast time. She also reads and answers emails to her site. Check the I-net for one of her stations near you.
If none of this helps you should take your Mac to a computer guy/gal service near you, and have them try to fix it. They do charge for it, but if you can't fix it on your own, then it is worth paying someone else to fix it.
I hope this helps you. And remember, we are all:
A Different Drummer
If a man does not keep pace with his companions,
Perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer.
Let him step to the music which he hears,
However measured or far away.
