i seriously thought this thread was about how humankind will never become extinct if they just unite together in harmony. i have no idea what this is actually about, but i expect it is something sport-related.

*skulks away*

I don't tend to follow sport either but last week the big sports headline was that Manchester City football club beat Manchester United football club 6 goals to 1. This was a case of a relatively unimportant club thrashing and humiliating a giant in the world of football. Hence my joke about the fans telephone helpline 0161 616161. :P

:D Class.

Except for your peculiar follow-up comment about City being unimportant compared to United. What with City being top of the Premiership and all.

My knowledge of football teams expired around thirty years ago, so I may not be quite up to date with who is the top of which league. Is Nobby Styles still playing for United?

We'll never die, we'll never die
We'll never die, we'll never die
Keep the red flag flying high,
cause Man United will never die.

This is one of the chants sung by the fans
It's about the players who were killed in the Munich air crash in 1958.
It's got other verses, but no one sings them.
The club lost 8 players in the crash. The manager Sir Matt Busby and Sir Bobby Charlton were among the survivors,
The team were known as the Busby Babes, because they were all very young players. At the time they were the best team in England,
having won the previous 2 league titles, and were among the best teams in Europe, the crash happened during a European Cup tie.
Busby had to completely rebuild the team from scratch and ten years later his new side conquered Europe by winning the European Cup, which is now renamed the Champions League.

So there you have it folks, come on you reds.
