Does anyone play Dagorhir?

For those who are not familiar it's a full contact medieval fighting game. You use foam weapons in attempt to kill other players. The standard one-handed weapon is classified as a Blue weapon, and may be a sword or club. This is the most common weapon type. Others include red, green, and white. A hit to a limb destroys that limb, two limbs lost is death. A hit to the torso is death.

Full information can be found at the website. <--- Link

Sounds like LARP, with the same type of rules for combat. Ever watched the movie "Role Models?" They do that in the movie, but call it LAIR.

I've always thought that might be fun to do, but have never tried it.

Yeah, it is a LRP, one of the earliest ones (not "the earliest" as they claim, though). Doesn't look like it's changed much, from the look of those boffer swords. ^^

I've heard of it. I'm interested in LARPing, but people who LARP are rare in these parts. Maybe at the local convention on Saturday, I can find out about local LARPs.

I think that it's a very cool sport. I enjoy watching it on TV. The thing is, that I don't think that I'd have the stamina, to last through an entire game of it. If I was around your age, I'd be playing it. :)

They put that "American Gladiators" crap on tv, LARPing is far less ridiculous than that, so LARPing should be on tv actually.

Here's a couple of not-TV videos for ya.

Examples from a UK LRP event - you're generally expected to pull blows and avoid full physical contact in this style of LRP, and there are high fantasy effects bundled in, which make it a bit different to a full-on fighting combat style. UK LRP doesn't take itself very seriously.

The people who LARP here in Buffalo I hate to say this but are pretty weird. I see them when I go to my D&D meetup at UB. The people from Dagorhir or the SCA seem more normal looking. I know this is coming from a guy with Aspergers (I am a little weird myself) but the LARPers I saw were a little creepy.

A little. My roommate is really into it. He has a small pike, a sword, and two shields. We have a team on my college campus called Noble.
