Anybody else just love sea shells? Since I moved to Florida which is surrounded by water we've been going to the beach more often. I really don't like swimming in the ocean that much (salt water makes me feel icky for some reason), but I love to collect shells on the shore. I've managed to find some really pretty ones that I have taken home and put in a box on my shelf. For awhile I pretty much kept every shell I could find but since I ran out of room in my box I decided to only keep the ones in near-perfect condition which means no holes or cracks or broken shells. Anyways here is a picture of all my shells if anybody wants to see. :)

Sorry I know it's kind of a blurry picture, blame my cellphone. :/

Yup, I love shells. I used to collect them when I was a child, and still have a box or two of them somewhere.

I've started collecting them again recently, along with stones, as I now live near a beach again. I get quite distracted looking for them.

Nice pic. :)

Thank you. :)

When I was a kid I wasn't very good at finding shells when we went to the beach so I would just keep whatever I found, and I ended up with a lot of ugly broken chalky shells. As I got older I figured out where the best places to look for shells are and now I only like to keep the best ones I can find. I like pretty shells. 8)

They're pretty :)

I did go through a stage of collecting interesting looking pebbles when I visited the beach but unfortunately I don't live as near as the beach as I would like.

A few years ago I lived with my kids right at the beach. We would go shell collecting practically every day - they were perfect cover to make my childish interest acceptable...

Those are beautiful GreySun369. I collect sea shells and have found most of mine while I was scuba diving. But I have collected them while walking along a beach as well. I have mostly perfect ones but I have not so perfect ones too. I'm sentimental about them so I haven't parted with any. I also collect sea stars or star fish, sea urchins and sponges and other things like that. I have never thought about taking photos of them before. I'll have to remember to do that when I get them all unpacked. My bathroom theme is sea shells and mermaids.

That's a beautiful collection of sea shells that you've got. I also love sea shells. I wish that I was living next to the ocean, so that I could collect them, put varnish on them and sell them. Too bad I live in the city where I don't have that opportunity.

If you're ever in Northern California, there's a beach just for you! It's near Ft. Bragg & is called appropriately enough, "Glass Beach." Back in the 20s, people used to dump their glass bottles & jars there. The glass is mostly amber, green, clear, or blue. Little glass "pebbles" literally lie everywhere. Hard to capture in a photo, but clicking on the link will give you an idea of what you'd see.

I like seashells too & have a small collection.

GreySun369: Yeah, those are great. Do you have much luck in finding shark's teeth? I was in Fernandina Beach in the '80s and could still find them pretty frequently then...even found a whale's tooth once! :)

To those who asked, I haven't found anything like star fish, sea glass (other than the nasty broken beer bottles left by inconsiderate people), or sea sponges. I've seen a few broken sand dollars but I'm hoping some day I can find a whole one, that would be pretty cool to add to my collection, and if I found a whole star fish that would be cool too. :D

And thank you everyone who complemented me on my collection. :) I have to confess that not all of those shells were actually found by me, most of them like the little ones were found by me but some of the big ones belonged to my grandfather and he gave them to me. They were found at the same beach where I got the other shells though. We mostly go to a beach called Johnson's Beach which is full of white clean sand and pretty shells scattered around, and they even have a nature trail nearby where you can walk on this boardwalk and look at the marsh and sand dunes nearby. There's another beach we go to that's near an old abandon fort called Fort Pickens (I forget the name of the beach) and they have pretty much the same kind of shells.

I've really only been able to find mollusks because the other shells like conch shells always seem to be broken, but it would be nice if I found some in good condition. :nemo:

I had no idea about the existence of the sea glass beach and the sea glass as such. I googled it and the net says it's used for jewellery by jewellery makers. I'd love to live near a seashore. I very like shells too, I have many shells.
