Ok .....
In the world of the internet ....specially in the chatrooms , forums(not autistics'forums only in NTs') , online games .....for some reason there s always some people who tend to "insult" or "tease" the active users with the "Get a life" insults-like , like for example :
- You don't have a life in real life
-Get a life!!
-you are a looser so why u r online all time!
-You are all time online cause u don' t have a life !
-you need sex looser...
- bla bla bla ....etc ...I Think you got the idea ...

And the funny thing that some of these users who say such things are only 24/7 of the day .....

now the question is ......why always people put their noses everywhere and care if the users "have a life " or " don't have a life" according to their perspective?

Well, I think Jung would say that they are projecting their own inadequacies onto others. "I'm not like that, you are." These people's biggest fear is that they themselves perhaps do not "have a life," or they’re terribly dissatisfied with the life they do have. If they can successfully label others as having less of a life than they feel they themselves have, then they don't feel so bad about themselves. It's pointless however to try to confront these people with this as they can be counted on to fiercely defend their position, sometimes to the point of violence. Egos constructed in this way cannot and will not tolerate their own abasement. Try to be tolerant and remember that none of us are our egos, but that they haven't got a clue to that reality. Choose your battles wisely.

Ugh. this is one of my pet peeves. It all depends on how you define "having a life." NT's define "having a life" as a social life (ie doing stuff with people that I find mind-numbinly boring IMO). I define "having a life" as doing what you enjoy, but apparently most NTs dont really care or understand.

I think maybe the only opinion that matters on this issue is one's own. If you feel you have a life then you probably feel okay. If you don't, then you probably feel the need to do something, whether it's get a new or second job, get a new (or second  ) girlfriend or boyfriend, a new hobby, or put someone you perceive as deserving in their place (reassert your position above someone in the pecking order.) ("Hey, NT! Doesn't it feel good to compare yourself favorably to a low-life, no-life aspie! )

It's like when people are using the phrase: in the real world. When I was studying I got that a lot: if you lived in the real world, then you'd have to.... That has always puzzled me. Where is this "real world" I thought I already lived in it.
Unsecure people say that to convince themselves that the world that is theirs is real and authentic, they fear yours is better, and they are trying to bring you down.

A lot of times when people on other forums say things like that to others, like get a life, it's often something others have said to them, they are just projecting it to others.
If you react you give them what they want, so don't.

I define a life as your existent conscience. (in other words, alive)

I once asked for help somewhere, and all I got was "Get a job and get a life, you loser!" That just makes me MAD! :x They think I'm lying about my dept. of vocational rehab (the reason I can't get a job yet).

I take the "Get a Life" insult with a grain of Salt. The people who are the most likely to tell me such a thing, are too busy socializing with their friends to be living a life of their own. I do have a Life. I have my own Life and the luxury of being able to wind down, for three hours, before Bed. That, to me, is having a Life. 8)

That phrase annoys me as well. They just mean their world, which they assume is somehow better or more self-sustained.

All of the world is "real" and its also all artificial as well, in the sense that it's just a model of reality that our brains construct for us. Does that make any sense?

Bugger them. I doubt that many of them can read to the same degree as us can (or I can). How many of them have actually read Dante, Cervantes, Orwell or Dickens? I have read Dante, Cervantes and Orwell, and I read "A Christmas Carol" and "Oliver Twist" when I was young. They could barely spell English, let alone read it (think l33tspeek, a more horrific mangling of the English language than Newspeak from "1984").

Not only that, how many have actually got degrees, or are working for them? Not very many.

They also wouldn't care to think about life and it's implications. These sort of people would probably think they're invincible, that venereal disease or car crashes due to excessive speed and/or alcohol doesn't apply to them. Then they act all shocked when their dong falls off, or they end up decorating the road with their bodily fluids and their organs (hint: intestines belong inside the body) in a manner that would make Jackson Pollock proud.

To those who say we don't have a life, I say, futue te ipsum.

If a bully tells you to get a life (or someone who reguarly teases you), then tell them "No, you're the one who needs to get a life, if you haven't got anything better to do than make people unhappy." That's throwing it back in their faces.

Quote:
futue te ipsum.

Meaning what exactly?

It's Latin for "go &^#! yourself".

People who say "get a life" are usually saying more about themselves and their lack of a life than anybody elses. People say that to me when I stand up for myself or post something they disagree with. However, it is very easy to take them apart and expose them for the pea brains they are. They never have anything to back up that comment (or the others like it). It comes from a complete lack of imagination.

But as Mr Mark says - pick your battles. It isn't always worth the effort to deconstruct people like this. Although sometimes I find it highly amusing. That's my dark side coming out and I'm not always proud of that.

What most of these people would consider a life isn't really being very alive.
