Hmmm if it's something said about a young child then it may because there is a typical saying of 'they love the box more then the toy'. Therefore the person is saying you'd be better off just getting them a box to play with, other then that I have no idea.

I think it means he needs to a box to put a gift in, to give it to someone else, as opposed to receiving a gift. It's saying that someone needs to become less selfish.

Think inside the box? Or it could have to do with little kids playing with the box more then the toy that was in it.
