Since the new movie 'Iron Lady' is to be released tomorrow, I wondered if many British people felt that Dame Maggie Thatcher should have been portrayed by an English actress instead of Meryl Streep? Sylkat 8O

I just found out about this today and I found it funny that they're doing a movie about Margaret Thatcher.

It got me thinking about what the movie about Gordon Brown would be called... Saggy Ball Face?

I think it would have been better if she was portrayed by a British lady. What were they thinking?

Sherlock Holmes is being played by an American, and Batman is being played by a Welshman. Nobody complains. Really, what's the issue? Is it different when it's a real person? I wouldn't complain if some British guy played, say, John F. Kennedy as long as he was good.

Actually, the BBC version of Sherlock Holmes is played by Benedict Cumberbatch, who's British :P

It doesn't bother me. I probably won't even watch the film. I wasn't old enough to remember her reign but my mum rather liked her (she was a Conservative voter at the time).

(Interestingly, the term "Brits" doesn't always have a positive connotation and in places like Ireland especially, it's derogatory.)

Wrong. Not many people know this, but Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr are actually the same person. Have you ever seen them in the same room together? And I'm not sure how, but it somehow involves 9/11 and the Freemasons.

No, I can confirm that it does not involve Bilderbergers or Lizard Men. This guy told me so:

I'm sure nobody from round here (East Durham) will be upset, as I've heard several people express their fervent desire to party when Thatcher dies and the sentiment is generally approved. It'd probably go down well if she were played by a fat Korean with a silly haircut, though finding one with the requisite degree of dictatorial insanity might be tricky.

(From the brief trailer I saw, Streep was doing a reasonable job of it; good for her.)

I couldn't care less if she was played by Eddie Murphy in a fat suit.

John Wayne portrayed Genghis Khan. Your argument is invalid.

I think more people are concerned that the film might gloss over the reasons she was/is so hated.
