Just a random subject to throw out there, I'm an Aspie who had this chat verbally with NT friends a while back - what were some times when you almost got killed (but lived to tell about it, as the saying goes..) mine are:

When I was 11 years old, I was about to go off the diving board at an Olympic-size pool, then slipped on the side, scraped my head, and briefly passed out from the shock...a lifeguard jumped in and saved me, I came to spattering water asking "what happened???" and was freaking out...(btw this was clearly AS-related due to poor motor coordination, and I avoided diving boards since!)

When I was 20, I walked across at an intersection (had the right of way) and some idiot slammed on the brake too hard too late, and just as I was walking by the central yellow line, his bumper clipped me on the back of the leg. It spun me around like a top, and it was one of the most painful things ever!! The guy took off but a couple of good Samaritans chased him and the police were called - it turned out he had no insurance and was a refugee who spoke little English, so I wouldn't have been able to sue him, but I was just glad to be alive!! !!

At 21, one night I was threatened by the friend of a room-mate (or flat-mate if you prefer) with a knife, a big guy who grabbed me with one hand and held the knife in the other threatening to cut me b/c I had made his friends feel uncomfortable with my "rude, selfish, and ridiculous behaviour" - most of which I had no idea about...yeah, that was definitely AS-related in hindsight. I got the heck out of there within a month and had less extreme issues with future room-mates, luckily.

A couple of years ago, I was driving at night, going through a relatively deserted intersection at about 90 km/hr (yes, I'm in Canada) and some f***ng idiot took a sharp left turn practically right in my path, I only avoided a collision by quickly swerving to the right & ahead, like at the 2 o'clock position and back, he could have whacked me in the driver-side door and that would have been the end.

Honourable mention from one of my friends...at the age of 13, he was at a lake resort north of Toronto, and while swimming & snorkeling in the water, he felt a tremendous zipping sensation above him; it turned out it was a water-skiier who had just passed over him and missed him by very little.

OK, enough of my "almost got killed" moments, let's hear yours!!

I almost got struck by lightning at the age of 17. I was walking home from school and the lightning was only 6 inches away from me.

hmm, let's see...

I was almost kidnapped last year, which is kind-of funny in retrospect. Of course, the one night my dog has to pee at 1AM and I have a fever, I end up running down the street in my sock-monkey slippers away from an unmarked van. ...life...

I would include a certain knife attack in high school, but he really was very bad with a knife. I doubt he would have been able to kill me even if I had let him.

When I was ten, I had a bad flu, and was throwing up all the time. Eventually, I became dehydrated, and I had to be rushed to the emergency room and have fluid pumped back into my body.

When I was twelve, I made an attempt to start my dad's truck. I floored the gas pedal, and the truck moved forward, but luckily my mom's car was parked right in front of the truck, so the truck merely bumped the back of the car.

When I was little some guy decided to ride his motorcycle down a busy sidewalk and ran me over.

When I was a kid, I tripped over a railroad tie and gouged my leg while attempting to get out of the way as a train was approaching fast. Got out of the way just before the train would have hit me, by a split second. I still have the scar on my leg to show for it.

Tried to cross the street and the truck driver didn't see it, I think I was just 0,5 meters away from being ridden over.

And I accidentally drank myself KO and lied on the floor when it was freezing outside.

Me and my brother were in a car accident once where we didn't see a large truck tyre in the middle of the road when we were coming over a crest. We almost flipped the car. We had no choice but to hit the tyre front on and it rode upright underneath the car, causing a huge dent in the bottom, tilting the front passenger seat to a 45 degree angle. If I was sitting in the front seat (my flatulent mother had been sitting in it all day; OCD me didn't want to sit in it after that), my head would have gone through the passenger window and I would have had severe head injuries.

Couple of automotive close calls over the years, most serious being rear-ended by an SUV while waiting at a red light in an MX6 coupe... That one required a few trips to the chiropractor and some massage therapy; not the worst outcome, considering I also got a pain and suffering settlement out of the deal.

My closest calls probably were as a kid when I tried to make a powerful electromagnet by tapping into the bus bar of the breaker box in the basement of my house, didn't hurt myself but blew out a lot of breakers and caused quite a commotion in the house... Funny story now, wasn't so funny at the time.

For my tenth birthday I went swimming. I went into the deep end with my cousin (who was the same age), and there was a wave machine on. I could never be able to swim as good as others, because of the doctors saying do not let my ears or nose under water, and I didn't want to wear my armbands because I wanted to feel ''big''. So I held onto my cousin in the deep end while the waves were on, but I got out of my depth and started panicking, and I pushed my cousin under the water aswell as myself. She made it upto the top, but I was still under. She tried pulling me out but wasn't strong enough, and I just got stuck under water, since I wasn't sure how to swim my way to the top. So my cousin got a random man to get me out of the water, and he did, and then got the life gaurd to see if I was all right. Two more seconds and I would have drowned and died, a day before turning ten.

I got sinus infections after that and was off school for a week.

I had my first seizure last month and hit my head on the linoleum in my room and passed out for an hour and a half. My glasses punctured the side of my head and I woke in a two foot puddle of blood. I looked like Carrie! I'm on Neurontin now for it, and have this Z shaped scar on my right eyebrow. I've got an appointment Sunday to rule out if I have a brain tumor, or if it was just some strange incident.
