Paying over the dollar value of a gift card on Ebay?

Today on Ebay, I saw a gift card with a value of $50.00 with a winning bid of $51.00.

I have seen this in the past.

Why?

Maybe the person had some eBay bux they needed to use & there wasn't anything the person wanted to buy :?
