One of the doctor's I work with (I'm an R.N.) asked me if the tie he was wearing looked okay for a meeting with a superior. It was navy blue with small white polka dots all over it. I told him it looked a little goofy. He replies, "Nobody uses the word 'goofy' anymore." He took the tie off but never told me what current word is replacing "goofy". Does anybody have a clue? I sure do not. :? Polka dots on a tie?! !! I can imagine them on pajamas, on a Flamenco dancers dress, a clown suit, or on kids cloths but ON A TIE?! ! The first impression I would have gotten if I was this guy's superior instead of inferior was that he was slipshod and delegated TOO MUCH work to others. I don't know why but I would think this.

That sounds like something I would wear. A male boss shouldn't wear that to work.

"Gay" would currently be understood as a replacement. Sadly. I don't suggest you join the crowd of fuckwits who use it. ^^

Yeah, "gay" would work. Although you could have pointed out that Goofy can talk but Pluto can't.

Maybe you could have asked him "Are you going to be getting out of a tiny care with 27 other people?"

goofy is still fine to use. he probably just said that because you hurt his feelings. i would not recommend using the word gay. it is obviously homophobic. i dont see the problem with him wearing dots if he wants to. its his choice and doesnt affect you.
