So St patrick's day is coming up soon and it's a big thing at my house. (i live with roomates)
I have mixed feelings about parties at my house. I do have fun with my core circle of 3 friends but usually there's around 20 people at our st pat's parties. Most of these people I barely know.

I will be drinking (a lot) at the party. It doesn't really make me socialize any more, it just makes me feel less uncomfortable around so many people and if I say anything weird they just think it's because I'm drunk. I usually run for my room after a couple hours when I start to sober up. lol

This will be the first party since I learned about aspergers. I'm wondering if that'll make a difference in my mind. I kinda doubt it, but who knows.

I am going to try and socialize more. Small talk and flirting with girls (most of the girls I like and can talk to easily are already in relationships) is still a foreign language to me so I'm going to be trying to find common interests with people I may meet.

Wish me luck

So is there nowhere you might be able to escape to if it gets too much? :)

Learning about mine didn't make any difference except in how I understood myself and was able to handle things differently and know why I felt the way I did from time to time.

I'd suggest that you just have a good time.

If you want some ideas of appetizers or dishes to have around for a buffet, let me know. I got a lot of ideas.

One really good traditional Irish dish (that I've read is traditional Irish that is) is corned beef and cabbage. Here is how I
make it. It's cheating though.

Get an oblong deep baking dish. About 9x12. Spray it with Pam. Wash and chop about half a cabbage. Put them in the dish. Open two cans of corned beef and crumble over the top. Pour two undiluted cans of cream of potato soup over the whole shebang. Cover with foil and cook on about 325 until it's good and done, maybe 45 minutes, keep checking it.

Also, make mashed potatoes the day before. With real potatoes not instant. Put them in the fridge overnight. Mix an egg and flour in to make a stiff dough. Flatten into patties and fry in oil. Drain on paper towels.

Potato soup is easy. Peel and boil a couple of potatoes in a two quart pot. When done, mash them up, bring back to a boil, and add milk. Mix up a little flour and milk in a seperate dish and add it to the boiling soup to thicken it. Turn it down to simmer and let it cook a while.

Potato candy. Boil one fist sized unpeeled Irish potato. When it's done, let it cool completely, several hours. Peel it. Put it in a glass or plastic bowl and mash it up good with a fork. Add about a box of confectionary sugar or more to make a very stiff dough. Put out some wax paper and sprinkle with more confectionary sugar. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about a half inch thick. Spread peanut butter on it and using the wax paper, roll it up like a jelly roll. Wrap it tightly in that wax paper, and another layer on top of that and put in the fridge overnight. Slice. You can put food coloring in the potato dough if you want.

Irish coffee. Strong coffee, with one spoon of sugar, real whipping cream, and bourbon in each cup. You can put whipped cream on top if you want.

Yum.

You know that it's not actually an Irish dish but a dish of the diaspora? It's Irish-American and has never been popular or widely eaten in Ireland itself. Bacon and cabbage, which is related, is traditional Irish though.

How about making boxty (an Irish potato pancake)? Or coddle? Or an Irish breakfast if a sit down meal is something you'd be interested in doing? An Irish breakfast is commonly eaten at all times of day. The Irish breakfast is superior to an English breakfast I believe, and I say that as an Englishman.

Or gammon with colcannon? Some traditional Irish meals for you to think of.

All served with Guinness, naturally. :)

I find drinking is good for that...

Also, you might try watching others do stuff, like beer pong or something, or if the TV is on sitting around with others, then you're involved in the party but don't have to talk much or be paid alot of attention.

OH! A great trick for faking small talk! Tell a brief funny or interesting story of something that happened lately, whether to you or someone else. I find that this entertains people pretty well, even though I'm basically just relating some facts about something that happened. And it gets people talking about other things.

Talking about people and their antics rather than your interests or general topics seems to work like a charm every time.

Took me a while to figure that one out...lol.
