I'm not gonna lie when I say that North Korea's threats are making me nervous regardless of whether or not we should be taking them seriously. So I figure I should say tata in case the U.S. does get nuked in the next day or two.

(honestly curious) what are the chances of a nk missile surviving to land in the us?

It should be very slim sens the US wasted/spent all that money on the Star Wars missile defense.

Successful tests have been conducted of our missile shield technology, and North Korea is not even very advanced with its missile guidance systems at this point as far as I know. Let alone with methods of fooling an interceptor missile.

That's what I'm telling myself at least, as I live close to one of the cities in the US that is most reachable by an NK ICBM. Interestingly, a photo I saw of Kim Jong Un in his war room did not have my city tagged for destruction along with some others less fortunate.

Kim Jong Ugly might just be rattling his sabre to get attention. I wouldn't go hiding under the bed just yet.

He really needs to put his money into feeding his people, not developing weapons.

Even if they attempt anything with us or South Korea, they're screwed.

They cant hit us on the US mainland.

They could theoretically nuke a US base in Okinawa, but not any american state- even on the Pacific coast- as I understand it.

North Korea has the population size of Pennsylvania.

Its not a continental sized superpower like China, or the old soviet union, or the USA.

So it would seem unlikely that Kim could start a global war even if he wanted to.

But even a local war would be locally disasterous. But he would only loose all, and gain nothing.

But who knows. Maybe Kim really is suicidal and wants to take his country with him into nuclear oblivion- kinda like drinking the Kool Aid at Jonestown.

Wish I could rule that out, but I cant.

I don't consider their leader a major threat... I don't really want to laugh at him too much though, but the previous leader had some outrageous myths perpetuated by himself ( http://www.globalpost.com/dispatches/ne ... ate-leader ) and they seemingly failed the missle launch they tried last year. Not to mention the photoshopped pictures of their military forces (new one with quite a few hovercraft in it, pretty obviously copy-pasted several of them). I don't put much stock in their threats overall, but I'd keep an eye on them. I do feel sorry for the misled and famine ridden populace though...

He doesn't have those capabilities. He's full of sh*t. If he tried something we could level that place and turn it into a parking lot without breaking a sweat. Of course that's only if Obama doesn't fight back with his signature weapon, the apology. He may try to apologize NK into submission.

They may have the ability to build a crude nuke but DO NOT have long-range accurate missile technology. A large-scale bomb would have to be flown or driven in, and the USA is so anal about that sort of thing it'd never be allowed. They also track radioactive signatures and would be able to find that ground bomb before anything serious.

Kim-Jong-Whatever is a bigger, more stupid blowhard than his madman father. Any success would rely heavily on luck and would be a small, temporary victory... before his country is turned into rubble by the rest of the world.

No, because it won't cross the ocean that's between our continent and theirs. He also doesn't have that to begin with. It's like me threatening The Rock with kicking his butt. Sure, if he was tied up and knocked out with something and I was given a big stick and lots of time, but that aint happening, just like NK isn't going to do anything to us.

I'm in Seattle, and the bases in Washington are closer to this city than to Canada as well. I'm assuming you're in the Vancouver area if you're anywhere in Canada close enough to worry about this, so since I'm in the hypothetical target area, and since there's a 2+ hour drive from me to you, you might get a little radioactive fallout at most. You would not be hit with a blast.
