Now, I have about 40 pair of beautiful heels in my closet. Many of them, I bought for one particular outfit. For the past year I've worn one pair of shoes almost exclusively. Those tan clogs with the sheepskin inside of them. They are comfortable. However, they did something bad to both my big toes. They are going. I'm going to be going barefooted for a while now, until my toes get back to normal. Nobody will notice that though, in this town. I'm already taller than a lot of people here, though, so it's ok.
I actually think the last time I wore other shoes was last October when I went to Stephanie's wedding and did her hair. I wore those black silk stilettos. Stephanie is my oldest son's ex gf. The one he was with for years before he got with the dopehead nut that he's with now. She married Scooter. I met Scooter shortly after we moved here when I had to call the cops to him because he was throwing lunch meat and bread at my son while he rode his bike. Yeah, the cops came for that. It was Shawn who came out and he's related to Scooter so he went over and told Scooter's parents that their kid was wasting food. Thats how that kind of thing is handled here. Then he came back and drank beer with my husband till he got off work and they watched football together. Theres nothing that happens here, so it was OK for him to do that. Plus, all those boys live in town anyway and if he didn't want to go on a call, he could call somebody else. Also, nothing happens here.
So anyway, that was the last time I wore other shoes. And I only wore them for pictures, they hurt so I took them off the rest of the time.
My point is, I'm going barefooted for a little while. For my toes. I have to. They look terrible!

I got rid of all my shoes except two pairs from here: http://www.softstarshoes.com/ which are unstructured, I find beautiful, and no more problems with my shins, foot bones, etc. They are kinda elf-ish, but they go with all my outfits: 7 t-shirts, 7 tank tops, 7 pairs of jeans. ![]()

Well, these shoes I've been wearing for the past year are the most comfortable ones EVER. No kidding, they are. But, they have made me have horrible, huge corns on the outside of each of my big toes, to the point where they even look funny.
I could probably wear some shoes now, but I think that a period of time without them would help my toes get better quicker than just wearing other shoes.
Plus, it's summer now. And in the summer, if you start early going without shoes, then before long you can step on anything, even broken glass, without hurting your feet. As a teenager, I hardly ever wore shoes in the summer, except for places I had to wear them.
Around here, theres a lot of anthills and pokey stuff in grass, like thorny stuff, but I'll get used to that pretty fast. It'll probably be painful for maybe a week or so, then I won't think twice about it. Also, where I live at, it's ok to go without shoes in almost every place except court and church. It's fine to go in the grocery store or Wal Mart barefooted, or the hospital or the doctors office, etc. You see people without shoes all the time here. It's the country. You also see people in all those places in pajama pants too, and sometimes hair rollers, so we don't really have much of a dress code around here. When the kids have Saturday school here, over half of them come in night clothes. For real. My son had it a few times and after the first time, he didn't bother dressing, he just went in stretchy shorts and a wife beater. Nobody cares.

Well, come on down! We got plenty of room for folks staying with us. Not sure if you will be able to understand the accents down here, but you'll eventually learn to and you'll even pick it up yourself. My husband sure did. He used to think he we talk was so funny, when I first met him. He's from up North. Now, he talks just like everybody else down here.
Plus, we have a pretty good classic rock station down here that you'll surely love!

Yeah, I got tough calloused hobbit feet. I can step on pretty much anything without hurting myself. I only bother putting shoes on if I'm gonna be going to some place of business, a store or a restaurant or something. Plus, even though some people see bare feet as dirty (though I fail to see how they're dirtier than shoes, at least my feet get washed) going barefoot eliminates foot stink.

You can go anyplace in this town, except court or church, barefooted. Even the restaurant or the store. Then again, we have probably the only restaurant left in the country that allows people to smoke inside lol.

Odd you made this thread, I'm having a similar issue with shoes.
For the past year or so, I've been wearing like, knockoff Vans/Keds shoes, http://cdn3.iofferphoto.com/img/item/18 ... -6dbb0.jpg approximately in that style. I got them for $3 at Walmart on clearance, and at first they were a bit small, but now they're broken in VERY comfortably. But, alas, the soles after a year have started to wear down, and I have only about 2mm of sole left in the same spot on the ball of my feet on both shoes. I'd do ANYTHING in these kinda shoes, really, I'd go hike up mountains in them, run, lift weights, kick a punching bag, didn't matter, they were totally all purpose shoes, I'd sometimes not wear them in the rain and instead wear boots in the rain or snow, but yeah.
Anyway, went to get new shoes, and of course since I'm a cheapskate, I end up settling on a pair of rather good New Balance running shoes. I figured great, since I wanted to get into running a bit more, and they were $7, and my size and good condition. I figured it was great. I found out I could indeed run a bit faster in those shoes, but then weightlifting is where things got weird. In some ways, I could get more drive from the heels with the new shoes, but they sucked for balancing. They're running shoes, so big, but soft soles.
Anyway, two days ago, did a 2 mile walk around a golf course with those shoes, with a few random sprints in the process, too. I also did some weightlifting, mostly snatches, and after the session, I was randomly on my stairs, took a step, and random pain in the arch of my foot toward the heel. Plantar Fasciitis ooh joy! I'm kinda blaming the new shoes on this one. Mind you, according to orthodox weightlifting opinion, my squat technique is bad, as I do tend to drive a bit too much through the toes, but I didn't do comparatively much squatting this week, I did do it with the new shoes. Maybe one exacerbating thing was the clean and jerks and the snatches with the new shoes, as those you can't just "drive through the heels" there needs to be a toed off jump in them, and yeah.
Anyway, yeah, my new shoes, first thing I noticed was, my feet hurt in them just standing in church, but of course, I did the natural human thing and ignored it, as I didn't want to be wrong in my 7 dollar purchase. So yeah, I've discontinued use of my more advanced shoes, and I'm back to my old shoes. I did put some insoles filled with fluid and a magnet in these shoes, and some foot powder to make them not smell as terribly, but yeah.
I did a lot of reading on this, and yeah. Apparently shoes are kinda bad for your feet, more just a necessary evil. As good as barefoot is, screw that, as there's glass in the street, bugs, etc. Plus here in New England, it's not as "chill" as the South is, so yeah... And those weird individual toe shoes just seem....weird. So yeah, my compromise has for the past couple years to wear Conversey kinda canvas shoes, and yeah. For tai-chi, they recommend the same thing, wearing flat soled shoes where you get a lot of ground "feel." But yeah, barefoot is good, as your foot muscles have to develop to stabilize you and all that fun stuff. So yeah, back to the 1940s technology sneakers for everything now. Hopefully the fasciitis clears up so I can go back to weightlifting and all that, I'll give it about a week. I can work through the pain, but, I don't wanna exacerbate problems either, so I figure going back to my old shoes and just walking normally in them and doing lighter kinda stuff will be good and stretch my feet back right again.
So yeah, screw you fancy modern shoes.
I'm addicted to Converse sneakers (a.k.a. chucks) and wear the laceless slip-on version around the house all day. I find them more comfortable than slippers. Walking barefoot feels weird to me.
PS: I own 12 pairs of chucks in different colors and 29 pairs of shoes in total, which proves that it's not only women who obsessively buy shoes ![]()
