does anyone else not "get" the concept of gift cards? "Oh hi, I could have given you 20 perfectly good dollars that could have gone towards anything your heart desires, but I traded those dollars for a plastic card that you can only use at Joanne's Fabrics." What's the point?

More personal? Maybe it looks like they put more thought into it. Part of gift-giving seems to be demonstrating that you care enough to know what the person likes.

Of course, gift cards are useful when it comes to iTunes...

... but the Home Depot? Hell no!

One bad thing about gift cards that nobody ever mentions is that if you want to use all the money on them, you have to spend money of your own. You get a gift card for $20, and you buy $19.42 worth of stuff, but you can't find anything for $0.58, because even one Skittle probably costs $0.60, so you find some useless s**t you don't even want but you buy it anyway because you're obsessive compulsive and want to use all the money on the card, and the total comes to $5.12 or something so the a**hole who gave you the gift card just cost you $4.54, and don't think I don't know this is a run-on sentence.

Here in california, a gift card with less than ten dollars on it is redeemable for cash.

Hmm i would just put money in a card or something, i mean sure gift cards can be ''fun'' but i don't see the point either.
