What was your close call today?
So what was your close call today? Here you can share all of those "well that could have been really bad" moments; near-death experiences, lucky dodges, miraculous safe landings, and instances of escaping mortal peril through quick thinking, dexterous athletics, or sheer dumb luck.
I'll begin. Let's see... well, tonight I was walking back from my friends house and decided to take a detour downtown. And by walking, of course I actually mean free-running, as our downtown area has so many obstacles to please the novice parkour enthusiast.
So I was running and I see this small concrete post in a parking lot, you know the kind that are designed to keep cars from rolling or crashing through? I figured that I could do a precision jump onto the post and balance on it. I ran towards it and lept up with the intention of landing on it with my right leg.
Well, the top was slightly rounded, and as a result my foot slipped right off. Thankfully the post was shorter than my legs, but even so thing could have turned out worse, When my leg slipped off, it landed on the side of the post opposite my other leg. When it did, it threw me off balance and I ended up eating the asphalt next to it and almost cut myself on a piece of broken glass. Well, once you start getting into parkour you learn how to get up and dust yourself off after hitting the pavement, which I did; however, had I not slipped the way I did... well let's just say if Patrica and I ever wanted a kid, we'd be spending less time in the bedroom and more time at the adoption agency.
Well that's my story. Anyone else?

A technology-related close call, if that counts:
I was on the computer as usual, when all of a sudden Firefox keeps closing and I keep having to restart it. Then my computer screen fills up with error messages. Then, all of the icons on my desktop are gone. I fear the worst - that my computer is ruined. But miraculously, even though the icons on the desktop are gone and I can't see anything in My Documents, the computer is somehow still able to function properly. I'm in the process of re-downloading everything that I lost. I'm able to access things through My Desktop, where the icons show up properly (even though in some cases I have to manually create the shortcuts).

^^ Our old computer had firefox on it for a while, and it did that very same thing all the time. Everything had to be reinstalled or whatever he did to fix it, at least once a week. No more of that thing!
My close call was today when I went to take my mother to the doctor, I was running late and in a hurry and had a headache. I was putting her meds in the bag for her to take with her and decided to take one of her pain pills. She has 5mg Lortab, and she only takes a half a pill every few days. She has plenty of refills and doesn't mind if I take one or two when I need it. I was going to take two of them because 5mg is a pretty low dose for me and my headache was splitting.
Her medicine bottles have snap on lids and they are all a different color. This helps her, as she can't see the writing on there very well at all and sometimes can barely differentiate between two pills. I grabbed the bottle with the red cap on it and opened it up while talking to her and rushing around the kitchen. I reached in and got out two pills and got a glass of water and was just about to put them in my mouth when I bumped the microwave and dropped them. When I bent down to pick them up I saw that I had two of her sleeping pills! I hadn't noticed the different shape in my hand because I was too busy and I didn't even look at the writing on the bottle or the actual pills. I would have been out cold in the waiting room. She had put the wrong cap on there by mistake. I switched them around right. I'm the one who sets up her medicine in her pill planner for her anyway, so she usually doesn't fool with the bottles.
