I'm really impressed with the book. While a work of fiction, it was written to realistically depict a bio-terrorist creating and deploying his own custom made virus. He cooks it at home and spreads it around. The beginning is really slow/boring but if you keep reading, it gets exciting.
Dear as408, I read it years ago, it scared me silly! It is not only possible, but remember the Saarinen gas released in the subway, the Anthrax mailed in envelopes, gaaak!

Not to mention in 1984 the Rajneeshee cult poisoned several restaurant salad bars with homegrown salmonella.
