Has anybody relocated from USA to UK? (Scotland for me)

Has anyone here ever relocated from the USA to the UK? I moved to USA from London, 13 years ago and now it's time to go back to the UK.
I am trying and I have been trying for years to organize this move. It seems like a huge and daunting task.
Has anybody done it and if so did you move your pet? How did that go? I want to take my cat with me, just having a pet with me is making everything much more expensive and complicated. I can't take the bus to the airport for example, so I will have to invest $500 in a taxi!!
Also, I can't find an affordable moving company, all I have are some boxes and possibly a desk type thing. This is much smaller than their minimum load, ie I'd have to pay around $1,500-$1,800 to ship 6-8 boxes.
UPS, DHL etc are equally expensive :-/
I am lost in the details and then I go in overload mode and I have to stop thinking about it.
When I get there,I'll have to stay at a hotel (pet friendly) until I find a place to rent, which means no sleep until I move, as my cat will be keeping me up every night trying to play or biting my feet lol
I don't even know if I can afford it, my uncle says he might be able to help me but he is and has always been unable of understanding monetary values. I say to him I need $800 for a ticket and $1,500 for shipping etc and he replies, "yes, I will send $500 so you can also have some money for the hotel". Plus he is in his late 70's and he is very forgetful I have noticed.
This whole thing is really frustrating to me, I wish I knew what is going to happen and how to make sure my pet goes through customs etc I have taken him to the vet already for the rabies test and the micro chipping etc at least.
Anyway if anyone here has been through something similar that would be of great help for me, even if you have moved from one other country to another, how did you organize it?
I would be moving to Scotland, to Glasgow or Edinburgh, I don't know anyone there even to have as friends in the beginning but I can make friends easily funny enough and I can understand facial expressions in the UK while here in the USA I am still lost. Is anyone here living in Glasgow or Edinburgh?
