Curious to see what people call their grandparents. I think this can vary by region (not sure though), so post your region if you feel comfortable as well.

MOM'S SIDE

Grandmother: Nanny

Grandfather: Papa

DAD'S SIDE

Grandmother: Grandma

Grandfather: Granddad

"Step"-Grandmother: First name (she isn't really my step grandmother because my Granddad married after his children moved out, but I don't know what else to call her). She doesn't seem to have a problem with my calling her by her first name, and she is the kind of person to mention it if it did bother her.

One of my parent's was adopted, a refer to their biological parents are "grandmother" and "grandfather".

I called all of my grandfathers Grandpa when they were alive. I call my two remaining grandmothers Grandma and Nana.

Now this get complicated, cos's of a few factors: one, I have three pairs of grandparents and two I have referred to them by first name plus by Northern English, Scouse & Northern Welsh titles.

Mum's side
Grandmother: Nan (also spelt as Nin, Scouse for Nanny) & Rice pudding (her nickname at school)
Grandfather: Granddad & Old Man Gray III (his family nickname)

Dad's (step-dad's) side
Grandmother: Grandma Mary
Grandfather: Granddad Tom

Father's side
Grandmother: Nain Eve
Step-Grandmother: Carol
Grandfather: Taid Brian

Paternal (Father's Side):

Grandfather: Ông nội
Grandmother: Bà nội

Maternal (Mother's Side):

Grandfather: Ông ngoại
Grandmother: Bà ngoại

They're all deceased though, and I've only been able to meet my grandmother from my mother's side once or twice when I was little. I use these to refer to them.

I call both of my grandfather's Grandpa and my grandmother Grandma. I differentiate between them by tacking on my paternal grandfather's last name when I refer to him. I don't do that to him in person but since the two of them are rarely in the same room it doesn't cause much problem.

Mum's side:
Nana and grandad.
I call my nana's partner (she and grandad split up when my mum was in her teens) by his first name. But he is like a second grandad.

Dad's side:
Nana
His dad died when I was a baby so I couldn't really give him a name.

Paternal grandfather: "Granddad"
Maternal grandfather: Never really knew him
Maternal grandmother: "Nanny"

My paternal grandmother died a while back, and my paternal grandfather later got married to an Italian lady who I now think of as my paternal grandmother. She likes to be called "Nonna".

All of my grandparents have died - they'd all be way over 100, if they were still alive. I never met my Mum's Dad, but I would have called him 'Grampa', like I did my Dad's Dad. My Mum's Mum was 'Granny' and my Dad's Mum was 'Gran'.

Mum's side: Nanna (With 2 n's, not 1) and Grandad.
Dad's side; Gran, no Grandad because he's dead.
