Anyone else hate bank holidays?

In the UK we got next Monday and Tuesday as bank holidays (bank holidays, public holidays, whatever it is) because of the queen's Jubilee - and I am dreading it. Last year was the royal wedding where the stupid government gave us 2 bank holiday days, and now this year we've got this. Worse - there's going to be street parties everywhere, throughout the Saturday to the Tuesday, including down my road, so I've got nowhere to get away from all these parties! I don't want to go out somewhere and end up having to walk through another street party. Will I feel like an idiot!! !!

Anyone else hate bank holidays? There's about 7 throughout the Christmas period, 4 at Easter, and others scattered elsewhere in the year, and I just find them so BORING! All my mum wants to do is go shopping, and the shopping malls get really packed on bank holidays and week-ends, so that's out of the question for me. And all my cousins are NTs and so have their own mates and lovers to see now. And all my friends don't live where I live but the buses don't run as regularly as they do in the week, and.....ohh, why all the bank holidays? What does the government expect everyone to do? Sit in their homes playing happy families?!

In America we call them 3-day weekends. When July 4 falls on a Friday or a Monday I wish someone would put a bullet in my head, it's not just the parties and the drunks but also the illegal fireworks that the police do not enforce the law. But not just that, these jackasses start them up in early June and blow off their leftovers at random late nights for however long their supply lasts. I really wish there could be additional charges of animal cruelty and abuse of the elderly and disabled. But on the holiday theme, every year I tell myself I'm not going to let myself get stuck alone again on Halloween and NYE, and every time they come up; ugh, what you ^ said

Holidays only matter for me they actually have a festival, most holidays work out great for me because then i can walk more undisturbed really.

I love them because of no work that day.

Up here in Scotland you're not going to get many street parties or other Jubilee celebrations in your way. You do still get a day off at Her Majesty's pleasure - cheers for that! Best of both worlds.

We're not having a street party here either. We had one for the royal wedding, which I hated every minute of and I ain't no royalist. I did loads of cooking and bought cakes and made tea, etc, which I'm happy to do. But, talking to neighbours, whom I hardly know is just painful (not my fault, they're the ones who go from door to car, car to door and never bump into anyone). My next door neigbours and the family next door to them have fallen out. Them, the couple across the road and us would have been doing all the work, like last time, so it's quite good that there's a rift, because it means there's no street party and no awkward socialising. That sounds terrible, doesn't it? The reason for the rift is even more terrible, so I do feel guilty for being happy.

But I love a bank holiday. My daughter's off school and my husband is off work and I just love spending time with them.

Oh, I hate holidays SO MUCH!! !! We just had Memorial day here in the states, and while I did sort of enjoy the extra long weekend, the break in my routine almost made me crazy. I hate how holidays screw with my routine, and cause everyone to be extra social. Drives me crazy!

I don't generally notice them. I usually work in retail and the only day I'm guaranteed to be off is Christmas Day. I'm between jobs just now though, so every day is a holiday (just without any money).

We're not doing anything for the Jubilee either. I'm Scottish and we aren't usually all that enthusiastic about the Royal Family, although I'm sure the Queen is a very nice lady. I won't do anything different, apart from not going swimming on Monday and Tuesday as the pool will be busier.

I live in a quiet neighbourhood, so no street parties on public holidays. That means that a public holiday is just a day off that I can spend doing what I want. The extended weekend that often comes with such a public holiday does mess up my internal clock though, as I keep having to remind myself what day it actually is.

Don't really pay much attention to them.. This one means I get paid early but seems there might be some expectation to celebrate it.. That could get annoying, might just pretend to be foreign and act surprised.

I don't like them because everything's closed and my friends and I can't go anywhere.

I've been in Canada on Thanksgiving, a few times. We've ended up in Subway for dinner, as the restaurants were booked up. How sad does that seem to the locals? I dread to think. That said, we weren't the only ones and the others were Canadians.

I didn't know there was a bank holiday . I could like them but i don't. They just make me focus on how every day is the same.

They suck. Inconvenient and people/traffic jams everywhere

I work in the service industry, the only day we close is Christmas so I work most holidays.
