I prefer driving to flying. I'd drive across the country before I'd ever get on another commercial flight. In fact I'm planning on doing just that this summer.
The last trip I took, I couldn't think straight for 4-5 hours after landing. I tried driving home from the airport, but it was raining really hard and the traffic was to much to much, to many lights, way to many reflections. I HAD to pull over and let BF drive. I simply couldn't cope with driving after the flight. To long around to many people, in cramped quarters, bad smells, annoying people, screaming kids, security theater for a whole day.... ARRRRGH!! !! When I got in the van I felt okay, it was only a three hour flight. It's when I got out on the road that things started to take a turn on me.
I really thought I could just drive home no problem. I thought to myself, 'I got this" What a mistake.
Flying commercial really bothers me.
I could have flown a Cessna across by myself, stopping for fuel a few times, and not felt as overwhelmed. I've flown a Cessna 172 through the mountains using VFR and not felt as stressed as I do having to jump through hoops like a trained poodle and all the other nonsense that comes with commercial flight.
Cool where are you driving to? Someone I knew drove from Northern Virginia all the way to LA to watch a live show of Price is Right.
The furthest I been in car is from Central New Jersey to Orlando.\\
For work I have to commute in by the train. It's ok. There is no quiet car though which sucks. Around summer times it can be crowded for few stops filled with annoying and loud teens on some tour or just families with children. The trains beats having to drive in since parking in DC garages is so expensive. I can take another train into DC that has quiet car and hardly any tourists, but it doesn't stop near my office.
