Hmm. I'm not too good at cooking either cos my judgement is so bad and I have trouble following the vague recipe steps. Anyway, this is what I've been doing:
I think you should try and start really simple like boiling an egg, frying an egg, boiling rice and pasta and keep practicing at basic things like that until you can say you do it well. If something is too complicated for you, try and simplify it first so you can get used to it. It would help if you can stand eating boring things, or have something to eat with them. I have found step by step guides on google for boiling an egg. Once you're confident with very simple things, you can gradually move on to things more difficult, like slicing and frying mushrooms, boiling tinned soup or even emptying tinned tomatoes into a pan and boiling them into a sauce. I think the key is practice. Now I can do some basic cooking. Sometimes they turned out bad the first time or first few times but I got them right in the end. =)
I hope that helps somewhat.
