I figured since we have one for airplane passengers and bus passengers I figured I'd make one for library visitors. I visit my neighborhood library A LOT and I believe in library etiquette and I have certain annoyances.

-People who push through the line when checking out books, DVDs, ETC, because they feel like they have the right to check out first, I would of let you check out anyway but you don't have to push.

-Teenagers and small children who insist on being really loud and obnoxious in the library by talking in loud voices, swearing, laughing and saying rude things.

-When the library is crowded and people who push to get the free computer even though you've been in the library longer than them.

-When you're just about to sit at a free computer but a kid behind you raises his or her voice and asks if she can sit there to the person leaving before you can sit down.

-People who drink or eat in the library.

-Creepy people who sit beside you at the computers and won't leave you alone.

-People who smoke outside the library, but close to the entrances.

-People who talk to the librarians or keep asking questions.

-Letting your children run around and scream.

The loud little old ladies in the backroom doing geneology. They always come in packs and always leave their hearing aids at home so they have to SPEAK UP to be heard.

Can't register at my local library here in France.

1st visit - the computer is broken so can't be registered.

2nd visit - the computer is still broken.

3rd visit - closed.

4th visit - person there is just looking after the library temporarily and doesn't know how to use the computer so can't be registered.

5th visit - closed for the entire month!

6th visit - closed again.

Gave up after this. Not been back.

-children who run and scream through the library, especially if they're in a section that's not meant for children
-people who ask the only librarian on duty about a book that they're looking for and they keep asking more and more questions and start going into a conversation with them while you're waiting to check out books
-people who listen to their headphones loud in the library
-people who don't put their cellphone on silent
-people who talk on their cell phones loudly in a quiet part of the library
-people who spend hours playing games and pointless things on the computer when other people actually have important things to do
-people who stand right in the middle of the aisle for 15 minutes so you can't pass them without having to say excuse me, it's called positioning yourself so people can get around you
-people who are loud in the study part of the library
-people who write in books or tear parts out of a book
-teenagers who group together and can't stop laughing and being obnoxious
-people who book study rooms in college and don't actually use them for a study room
-people who book study rooms and try to stay longer than their allotted time slot or take forever leaving
-people who use an empty computer chair to sit with somebody and the free computer doesn't have a computer chair, go to the back and get a regular chair people

Yeah actually I'm kind of ashamed to say I agree with you. The library in downtown Calgary give free library cards to the homeless. I find that they usually use the washrooms a lot. The washrooms in the downtown library were always filthy from people washing up and stuff. I found a needle in the washroom before. Also, yeah it's kind of gross sitting beside a homeless person who doesn't smell that great. Who am I to judge though, right? I just keep my thoughts in my head, I by no means think that the homeless shouldn't use the library...it's just kind of gross. haha

Children, teenagers... adults. Everyone.

I think I just need my own private library.

Anyone in the same aisle as me, especially if they are looking at the same section. Triple especially if they feel the need to make small talk.

Wow, yeah. I live in a bad neighbourhood with plenty of homeless people and drug addicts. The library is small, but there is a security guard patrolling. When I go, I will sometimes hear some of them yelling at each other.

Also, they get angry over the computers. I find that if I leave my spot for more than a minute, with the computer locked, I will find someone sitting in it trying to get on. Then they get mad at me for not putting up a sign.

There needs to be a "you need to smell this decent to use the library" rule. When I was living in the University District in Seattle, hobos would always use the computers. They somehow stole three hundred and fifty dollars out of the library return bin that the library wants me to pay for.

That's bull.

Hobos should just not be allowed in libraries, on buses, and pretty much anywhere where they steal and drug up the area.

There are hardly any people in most of the libraries I go to so there is no one to get annoyed by.

However, I did find people who hogged the computer for gaming/non-academic purposes at my college library quite annoying.

It's just that in most libraries I go to, aside from my college library, there are very few people and they keep to themselves.

I agree, in fact I've seen one or two people get kicked out for six months
up to a year after getting caught looking at or watching porn on the computers.
