I know a lot of people here on Wrong Planet don't go to the movie theater all that often,
or don't go at all, so for the people here who frequent a movie theater a lot,
what types of moviegoers really get on your nerves?

My list:

-People who show up about halfway through a movie or people who walk out about halfway through a movie

-People who don't eat or drink what they bought at the concessions stand quietly

-Parents with small children who let their kids run around screaming

-Teenagers who insist on being obnoxious by kicking your seat, talking in loud voices, cussing, ETC.

-The person who repeats the best lines of a movie after the movie is over

-The person who talks almost nonstop

-The person who talks or texts almost nonstop on his or her cell phone

-People who shout at the screen

-The person who laughs at everything in the movie, even if the movie isn't a comedy
or a funny kids movie

-The couple who PDAs during the movie very loudly

The people who choose to sit right next to us even though there are more than enough open seats everywhere else.

People who sneak food or drinks into a movie, even if prices at the concessions stand
are more than reasonable.

I rarely go to the cinema, but whenever I do, I despise all children.
They kick seats, laugh obnoxiously (sometimes spewing popcorn as they laugh), they talk, they're just plain annoying.

Also people who think during a movie is a great time to take a call. Take it outside, a**hole.

Here are some things I find annoying about some movie goers:
1. A person taller than me who insists on sitting right in front of me.
2. People with kids who are crying and they refuse to leave the theater.
3. People who giggle and talk during the movie.
4. People who play with their cell phone during the movie and cause a distration due to the light from their phone.

How come that annoys you?

Buy bag of chips from cinema = $5, buy bag of chips from grocery store = $1
Also some people may have food allergies, diabetes or just food intolerances. Should they not also enjoy snacking while watching a film?

I am probably the type of person who annoys others. I try to understand it and end up whispering with whomever I attend. Needless to say the people I know don't invite me to go to the movies with them much after that.

Yeah, the prices at confectionary counters around here are far fom reasonable. I always bring my own food and drink. But I eat quietly, and make sure I open the packet before the movie starts :D

I would say the one izabell said, where people come and sit next to you when the entire theater is nearly empty. That and the people who won't share their popcorn with me.

The ones you aren't able to convince to be quiet on pain of them being violently murdered otherwise.

(OK, that last bit would be a bit counter-productive...)

The person who sits on the row behind you who finds everything so hilariously funny they have a very load laugh at every teensy tiny thing they could possibly find funny right in your ear, just so you can't hear the movie.

I really like this topic
Actually I dont like going to cinemas. I do it 2 or 3 times a year beacuse I cannot afford some good home theater equipment.
It is needless to say that I always prefer going to cinema alone.

Here is my list

1) I really dont like that there are other people in the cinema! I would rather be all alone without any noises from candy or cellphones etc.

2) My NT friends dont seem to mind talking about the movie immediately after its over :o . e.g. "what do you think about it? etc." I hate that! beacuse when the movie is over I'm just so shell shocked 8O beacuse of the bombardment of my senses, so I just cannot say anything. So when they ask me about the movie I just make a stonecold face which ekspress "leave me alone!" :x

3) I also find it really annoying when parents take young kids to watch e.g. an american movie which is only subtitled in danish and the parent then all the movie along read up the subtitles for their little 6 year old kid who, off course, cannot read.

Cool topic. I love movies but don't go to the cinema much anymore because there's just so much that often irritates me about it. Actually I very much like some of the "rituals" of cinema (especially that moment when the light goes dim and everyone's attention shifts to the screen, there's a peacefulness to this "fading away" of the outside world) but yeah, I think I too would just need a cinema to myself, without all those other people. :)

Some of the responses in this thread had me impressed with how much some of you can take until you get irritated! For me, people who talk at all during a movie drive me nuts. Kids running around? I'd go berserk.

I'd add that people who have a cold, and cough every 2 minutes, MAYBE should not be at a cinema where other people (1) can't get away from their germs and (2) are trying to focus. :x

Yes!! Same here. I try to avoid going to the cinema with people who think that cinema + hanging out with drinks afterwards and talking is a good combination. It just doesn't work very well for me.
(When with other [NT] people, I also avoid certain types of movies. I'm generally too scared in horror movies; and detective movies frequently make me feel stupid because I'm not very good at figuring out the intentions and all the hidden "strategic" stuff that goes unsaid. This is when any attempt at talking afterwards gets even more painful/embarrassing, when it turns out the stuff I'm confused about is clear to everyone around me.)

The kids who sit right up the back row and throw maltesers at people sitting down front.

People with really high pitched annoyingly loud laughs (like my mother).

People who drop popcorn on the seats and floor (the theatres here aren't properly cleaned between screenings).

People who insist on sitting right in front of me when they can choose any seat in the row in the almost empty theatre.
