That's quite a plume! As said, the smoke is flagging away from where the camera is, so that means no immediate danger (until/unless the wind changes). I live in one of the most fire-prone areas of the USA; basically in the northwest part of the Malibu hills (aka Santa Monica Mountains). We've been evacuated twice since 2006, and typically it's every 3 years that a fire comes this way. So this year, we're due or overdue
.
Here are a few pics I took when the fires have gotten a little too close... The first one is exactly as it looked; no photoshop! It was about 5:00 in the morning as the sun just began to show above the mountains, and through a deep plume from a fire to the east.

And this is when it was blowing directly overhead, and when the real threat of burning embers raining down begins... If you look straight up and see smoke, start packing!
