Changing one's speech pattern?
Quite a few people have told me over the last decade that I speak in a general monotone that puts a lot of other people off. Add my lisp on top of that, and just about anybody can tell that I have some form of autism.
So, I was wondering if it was possible to train myself to change my speech to do something about the monotone, I guess to better get my points across whenever I speak. I can express myself very well when I am writing, but when I am speaking, the monotone of my speech pattern gets in the way big time.
Does anybody have any experience in working on something like this?
i learned to put emotion into my voice by reading. a good writer will make it easy for you to imagine the way somebody speaks by descibing their tone and emotion it conveys. i tried to mimic that when i tried to inject emotion into my voice. i also tend to absorb language from books so i will end up with the same speech paterns as the characters. when i read the classics i sound like i popped out of industrial britain and when i read ultimate spiderman i end up sounding like an american teen. i think that effects the way people percieve tone of voice or at least the emotion you are trying to convey. not that im an expert or that this will most certainly work. it's just how i did it. people seem to have a hard time picking when i am being sarcastic/joking or not so it might be limited in effectiveness.
