I posed this question in college and most picked number 2(as I do). Be interesting
to see how others choose.

I pick 1), but only if I sustain my current age.

How long would the long life be? And how short would the shorter one be? Bit of a meaningless question really - as with the short life I could be dead at 40!

Short Life, I don't want to live with some of the repercussions of old age (Fake teeth, heart bypasses, pentions, ect anyone?) plus I've always liked the idea of being better in my respective fields, I think I could deal with being a Polymath. 8)

Oh great now you've got me fantasizing.

I'd choose option 1; I'm very happy with my current life.

I choose to be thrown into London, as it was, between 1956 and 1967. I choose to be tossed into a random year, in that span, in order to conduct one of the first Standard Routemasters. :)

Ding! Ding!

Short could be as little as 5 more years and long could be till the ripe old age of 120.

I pick number one, because at least I know I'd be happy, at least most of the time.

I would like to live a long life, because I am happy where I live right now, my hometown of Seattle, Washington!

If I could exist for a long time precisely the way I was when I was five, I'd be really happy.

At that age I hadn't a care in the world. Now I'm a mess :(

I chose the second one because I'm not too interested in having my life stay like this for the next 60+ years.
