Do you keep your ketchup in the fridge or the cupboard? I *have* to keep it in the fridge and go crazy if someone doesn't re-fridge it. One time I was visiting my dad and he had left a bottle of ketchup - the kind with a metal screw - in the cupboard. When I came to open the bottle it exploded like a champagne bottle, spraying fermented ketchup everywhere including all over my clothes, face and hair. It was awful :(

Always in the frig. Not only does refrigeration helps preserves it, I like the cool ketchup with my fries better. I even keep mustard in the frig as well.

Me too - warm ketchup is meh :/ Anything of this category belongs in the fridge on planet me: ketchup, mayo, jam (jelly for the yanks), mustard, pickles...

Fridge! I hate warm Ketchup!

As a side note, my friend's mother insists on keeping Parmesan cheese in the cupboard despite the label saying to refridgerate after opening!

Grr! This drives me crazy and no amount of lectures on enzyme kinetics will get these people to change their ways!

All those go in the fridge in my house and if left out too long will be discarded as unsafe to eat.

We don't buy mayonnaise though, we only use Miracle Whip. I think I was 14 before I even knowingly ate mayonnaise for the first time.

Same with the throwing out. If I leave something like that overnight I normally discard it. Probably fine but my obsessive tendencies just wont allow it to be kept. The thing I hate more than ANYTHING in these matters is people who get bread crumbs in the jam or butter which, if left in there, will form yicky little mould islands in the jar. *vom*

Ketchup:

cupboard until opened, once opened fridge.

I equally hate those crumb leavers and worse is when someone uses the same knife from one product into another leaving traces of the other behind. For example, do not put your jam knife into the jar of peanut butter while it still has jam on it...gross.

Fridge, it's much nicer cold. Same with mayo, it's a bit meh when it's too warm.

Fridge, and I'd be a bit worried if you didn't keep mayo in the fridge either xD

I also like to mix ketchup and mayo into "burger sauce". Tastes great. Just a dollop of each into a little bowl, mix well, it'll look a bit pink and unattractive to eat like seafood sauce, but it is soooo good for burgers, chips, all sorts. Even a dip!

We do that sometimes in my house too except with Miracle Whip.
