Are there any awful tales of your childhood that are repeatedly brought up by family members, and you kind of wish they'd stop?

These two gems keep rearing their ugly heads lately:
1. I was obsessed with the idea of moving to the forest moon of Endor(think Star Wars) and living with Ewoks. Various stories about my attempts to initiate contact etc.

2. Some years later, at some point in the third grade I had learned to associate used syringes with HIV/AIDS and unfortunately I had a relative who had to take medication via syringe so I occasionally saw them in our trash which terrified me. One day I was trying to catch a garden snake and I climbed over our trash barrels because I couldn't lift/move them. An uncapped syringe STABBED ME from a bag. I went inside and wrote directions for my funeral(including an embarassing list of "funeral music") and presented it to my family a few hours later. They laughed at me for a while before explaining anything.

I sort of wish my aunts/uncles could magically forget these events.

Anybody have any similar experiences?

Yes I sleep walk and do just about every thing I do awake while asleep. I spent the weekend at my aunts in the middle of winter apparently got up about 5 in the morning took a shower with my pj bottoms on and set off walking on a 25F -3.8c morning I made it to the one mile mark 1.6km before it she realized it was the weekend and that her husband was still in bed with her. My uncle got dressed in a hurry got in the car and found me walking home in the snow bare foot no shirt frozen pants still asleep heading home. They like to joke about how the steam was just rolling off my skin from the snow coming down. One of many such events I don't like being told repeatedly.

My younger brother occasionally enjoys teasing me about a couple of things I did in the past. It's normal brother behavior to tease siblings, but it's still embarrassing.

- When I was about 11 or 12 I went through a phase where I had to tell stories to my mom every night before bed. Looking back, it was just an excuse to monologue about my imaginary world. Most of those stories typically involved pregnancy and giving birth, because that was my favorite subject. Anyway, one night I told her (and my younger brother, since he happened to be listening) an Inuyasha fanfiction story I made up where Kagome got pregnant with Inuyasha's child, only at the moment of birth, the baby "morphed" (in my own words) into Naraku. I made up this story with the intent of making Kagome pregnant twice, but my younger brother (rightfully) thought it was extremely bizarre, so he laughed and laughed and would tease me about it by bringing it up years later. He causes embarrassment with just two words: "morphing baby".

- I always do weird things with my hands whenever I'm sitting or standing idly, and once when I was standing around talking to my brother, I did a certain motion with my hands without really meaning to (touching each foot with the opposite hand). I have done that motion exactly once in my life, but to this day he still teases me about it because he thinks it was so bizarre.

I can think of a few hehe. When I was 2 years old I used to climb over the fence and wander off only to have the cops pick my up and drop me off a few times also when I was 4 years old we were on a long road trip back from yellowstone and I had this fascination with holes and put dominoes in the air conditioning vents and broke the air conditioner!!

I like this Discussion! Its fun!
Hmm, embarrassing stories.... Alright then, from the womb onwards!
I was supposed to be born a boy. Needless to say, that made my father very happy, and my mother was looking forward to it also, considering they had two girls already. Surprise, surprise, I popped out a girl! I wore blue boys clothes for the first six months of my life  And I still get teased for that!
Ah, and I was born with an extra ear channel. No joke, utter seriousness.
And I stabbed my older sister's eardrum and ruptured it (Not my fault, my other older sister had made me the nurse and wanted me to poke a stick into her navel. But thats where food goes! Come one, theres nothing important in the head, right?). I was corrected on that one. Apparently there is an organ that is housed in the skull, which is more important than your stomach. Who knew? 8O

well a little after 9/11 when i was a kid i was in the public toilet in a shopping centre with my sisters and the lighting was blue and a little creepy. there was also this ticking noise getting louder and more urgent and i was unnerved and the ticking was very loud and i just assumed it was a bomb... my response to this is to run out of the loo into the food court screaming IT'S GONNA BLOW!! !! ! like idiots my sisters follow me, also screaming though this never gets mentioned in retellings of the event. turns out the ticking noise was a trolley with really squeeky wheels coming down the ramp outside the loo. we watch it go by and then pretend nothing happened.

my sisters also like to remind me of the fact that once, when i was still in my single digits that i said "fart times tables" instead of 5 times tables on camera. it isnt funny.

I'm not really embarrassed about it but the story that got brought up from my childhood that I remember being repeated many times was this one time my mother went out and my grandmother was watching me. When she got home they noticed that I had cut off part of the bottom of one of the curtains. When asked why I did it I said "so I can look out the window."

Another one is in kindergarten when they tried to give me a cup of trail mix at snack time and I knocked it on the floor and said it was for the squirrels.

My mother often mentioned a "Campout on the Roof of the Y" party I went to as a kid, where they had to get us all up in the middle of the night and shoo us inside because the grocery store next door had been robbed and the cops and robbers were having a shootout in the alley. I have no memory of this incident, but I wish I did, as it sounds kind of exciting--at least for a 9-year-old. All I remember was this horribly scary yet boring old movie called "The Man With the Atomic Brain" that they had us watch.

1. I was sitting on the ground in public by my mum's feet when she talking to a friend - and I was 10 years old. What made it worse was my mum's friend had a 10-year-old daughter too and she wasn't sitting about on the ground like that. How ret*d was I?!

2. I had terrible temper tantrums at school when I was 5 and 6; kicking and screaming and worrying the other children

3. I got so obsessed with a random couple when I was 14 that I kind of ''stalked'' them. What made it worse was I told teachers at school that I stalked them, and one of them whispered, ''you're not meant to tell people about stalking''

4. When I was 12/13 I made out to have a physical disability, just to get sympathy from other kids, but instead I realised how stupid I was looking

5. When I was 12 I got frightened of a dog that was jumping up at me, and I struggled away, screaming at the top of my lungs, right in front of my 8-year-old cousin and her mate. I don't know what her mate thought of me

6. When I was about 9 I was in the waiting-room at a vets, when someone had 2 big dogs that had the most loudest bark I have ever heard, and I crouched behind the seats with my fingers in my ears, and my brother thought I was so embarrassing

7. I played up a lot in the hospital waiting-room, even when I was 7 or 8 I acted like a 2-year-old; whinging and whining and lolling about on the floor, because I got distressed with waiting for too long

8. I screamed and cried occasionally when there was a lot of children at my house (all of my cousins), mostly over nothing, which got my aunts annoyed and so wanted to go home, which made my mum feel lonely and upset with me. I now regret that, and if I could turn back the clocks now, I would be a much happier child

I don't count moments when I was a toddler as embarrassing ones, because all toddlers act embarrassing. In fact I was probably more well-behaved as a toddler than I was as an older child and a teenager.

Hey, Joe90, thanks for mentioning the dog thing!

I forgot, my mom liked to tell anybody we saw who had a dog about the time when I was about 7 and horribly afraid of dogs and she heard me screaming bloody murder one day and dashed out of the house expecting to see me bleeding to death. 8O

It was only my neighbor's minature dachsund licking me and jumping on my prone, cowering body as I was trying to curl into a fetal position.

I actually remember that one, unlike the night at the Y. I got over being afraid of dogs by getting a puppy, btw. It could barely walk, much less chase me and bark at me. :D
