Can anyone explain why facebook appears so annoying to you?

I personally found it a nightmare to use only because of the people in my "friend" and family circles were so damn skilled at ignoring the hell out of me despite of it being a social network that it made me go nuts.

Is it really because of the fact that facebook purely attracts shallow and arrogant people? Or is the majority of the world just really that annoying, selfish and 2-faced?

You feel like an invisible person on there yet at the same time the most watched person out there in a way that they just ignore you all the time until you say something wrong and then they all jump the "put-him-in-his-place" bandwagon like rabbits.

Is it true that the worlds most famous social network is actually making people less social and more hateful to each other? Or is it the people's fault that facebook has become like this?

I find youtube to be a more friendly and tolerant place than facebook tbh.

Wow, well I have a really good time chatting with people on Facebook (One person in particular  ). If something or someone annoys me I just block it from showing up in my newsfeed again. I also don't say anything personal publicly on Facebook

I don't really care for facebook either. All the crap people post... obvious and unfunny humor(I think I made an oxymoron!), inane and banal quotes, knee jerk opinions, and I really don't care where they got drunk or who threw up.

I have never had a Facebook account or a Twitter account and never will. I also set my phone up to reject text messages and do not have a real E-Mail address either. I used to have a Myspace, but I went so long without opening it that I forgot the password and it got deleted. The way I see it, if someone needs to get in contact with me, they have my phone number and can just call me. If they don't have my number then it is likely that I do not want them to contact me and so it doesn't really matter anyways.

Ummm... this has not been my experience at all.

Whatever the issue is, it doesn't sound like it's Facebook.

For me, it's the shallow and arrogant people on there. I also would never have a facebook, twitter or other social networking account other than here at WP. People can contact me by phone or email, or come to my door if they need to.

sadly i have had the same problem with people on my friends list and even more sadly some of those people are my family and church family members that go out of their way to ignore me unless i openly say i am depressed, lonely and that i feel like no one cares about me. that is the only way i get any one to say anything to me. i don't like posting this like that on facebook where anyone can see it but from time to time to test if anyone is actually paying attention to my posts i will post something along those lines. i have blocked many people that annoy me with their stupid posts in my news feed.

Because social networking is utterly moronic and in most cases thinly disguised voyeurism.

I'm starting to like Facebook. I need that and Twitter in order to be on Swagbucks. I don't know how to use it properly, but I'm getting the hang of it.

Essentially, it's the stupid Wall Status Update thing that is the problem.

Facebook as a central hub where people can reconnect or message each other is just a step above email and fine. But people feel the need to contribute to this "social" news feed and it naturally becomes shallow. Rip out the Facebook Wall and have people just message each other.

Or maybe setup a mini-forum which I think can be done with Groups. Forum threads are a better format for discussion then a streaming feed of status posts.

I've been on Facebook since the times it was only available to universities and everyone else used MySpace. For the most part, I've been able to fit in just fine. I generally keep negative posts to a minimum (the last time I posted something "negative" was during Valentines day saying that I was "feeling a bit stressed and Valentine's day isn't helping"), because it brings others down and they would get tired of it. I don't post all the time, and I don't get a lot of feedback from my posts, but the feedback I do get is generally positive. I try to entertain people with my posts and responses, whether it's something of interest, photo/video, or an amusing observation.

Facebook does have its annoyances:
-People who send you requests for and spam your news feed with games, apps, etc. and you can't block them fast enough
-People who post nothing but politics or religion. On the other hand, this is a free country, and everyone is entitled to his or her own beliefs, so I can't complain too much
-Some advertising (I know there's blocking software, but that does not work across all platforms). On more than one occasion, I've hit the "X" on an Autism Speaks ad, selecting "it was offensive" for the reason I did not want to see it.
-Facebook's constant "nudging" me to do things that I have no desire to do, such as suggesting that I like something or add a complete stranger as a friend.
-The mobile app, which not only messes with your contact list and tries to "help" by synchronizing with my friends list, but it activates the GPS when it has no business doing so.
-The frequent interface changes that are forced on you whether you want it or not. First there was "new Facebook", then the cluttered news feed, then the Groups changes (I still miss the old groups) and various other changes, some better and others worse. I have not been infected with Timeline...yet.

I mostly post things I find interesting (mostly related to pop culture, and my interests), and I play a lot of the games on there.

From what I can extrapolate from coworkers' gossip is:
1) That people "friend" and "unfriend" each other, which leads to feelings of resentment.
2) People talk about each other behing each other's back and someone hints about the fact on FB.
3) People create "bash pages" designed to poke fun at others.
4) It's basically a binary high school, complete with the trivial, juvenile drama-fest.
5) People use it as a means to say what they lack the courage to say in person.
6) How can you have friends that you do not even know.
