Alright, the rules are basically set by saying which character you think will win.

First off, Riff(Sluggy Freelance) vs Tedd(El Goonish Shive)

Riff is armed with his laser cannon, while Tedd has a full day to make something to combat Riff. They will fight on a sky pirate ship.

I don't know anything about Tedd's abilities( besides gender-bending and creating unholy abominations of people known as furries), so I am going with Riff.
