It seems really weird to me how this band had an African American (the great Gladys Knight) introduce them, just because of the types of people who USUALLY are big fans of this type of music...:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXks3Xjydh0

I get the feeling much of the audience REALLY didn't like Gladys Knight if you know what I mean...

With respect, I think you may be wrong here.

While I'm unfamiliar with this singer, seeing as how he was from the queer scene I'd expect his audience to be open-minded in general. Glamrock fans who can accept an openly gay artist, won't mind that a black soul diva introduces him.

I agree, though, that Gladys Knight is indeed awesome.

True but a lot of hard rock fans (especially of bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd) are racist, even though you would expect most racists in America to be country fans. What really is bizarre is how Madness, a late 70's/early 80's British rock band, was a favorite band of many racist skinheads. And yet their style of music was Jamaican in origin. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of their fans were gay too. The band members have made it clear they do NOT agree with the skinheads.
