Is the same as a teacher tying a left-handed kids left hand behind their back and telling them to write with their right hand.

I don't know with the analogy given, I'd say the tying a left handed persons left hand behind their back to make them use their right hand...would be more making them dwell on it then simply letting them use their left hand.

To tell an aspie to act normal is like telling a vegetarian to eat meat. It won't work, and the person will resent you.

Telling an aspie to "act normal" is like trying to get a carnivorous animal to eat vegetables.

if you thoughts are shaped into being flawed then you are. also being normal is just acting the same as every other ant on the ant farm. digging tunnels day and night. I'm just not interested in that, either.

Their normal or our normal?

I don't resent but it doesn't work for me because I don't know what acting normal is. I think telling an Aspie to act normal would be like telling someone who isn't a syfy fanatic to build a transitional warp core.

I'd just say, "This is normal for me. Deal with it!" :D (In reply, in case that wasn't obvious.)

This is a great example of the kind of "pocket philosophy" somebody was talking about in this thread: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt209339.html. It doesn't actually mean a lot and at worst comes across as patronising and potentially damaging to somebody who perhaps desperately tries to remain positive but is still dragged down by the struggles in their life and has difficulty forgetting about them and rising above them. You have no idea what is going on in other people's lives so to present statements like that is not only a gross oversimplification but is actually a little arrogant and presumptuous.

Well, I agree. Or like holding a book a "normal" distance in front of a legally blind kid, and telling the class he's a liar when he says he can't read it. (Which happened to me, back in second grade...)

Thanks for insulting me, I really appreciate it. No really I do. I'm sorry I'm not intelligent enough to convey my ideas to your liking. jack ass.

I was offering a constructive criticism to help prevent you from accidentally insulting huge swathes of people by making statements like that. Trivialising people's problems down to a trite statement about life is liable to annoy them if they struggle every day to stay positive like you said but STILL can't shake off the shackles of whatever the problems are. Life and these problems are not reducable to a few sentences and acting like they are is really patronising and offensive to some people. I don't mean to insult you I am just telling you the effect your words can have on people.
