This isn't to do with AS (which was why I put it in the random discussion). It's more to do with things people do that are very irrational but do anyway. Here are some examples:-

Irrational: Moving closer to the person in front of you in the queue
Rational: By doing that, the queue isn't going to move any faster!

Irrational: Hiding under the blankets when you hear a bang in the night
Rational: If a murderer came into your room, they're not going to say, ''oh, they're under a blanket - I can't stab them now!''

Irrational: Stomping and slamming doors in rage
Rational: Doing that is not going to solve the situation what made you mad in the first place!

Can anyone else think of any? It's quite funny when you actually look into the logic of human body language and emotions. :)
Funnily enough, I've actually got the idea of writing this thread from overhearing a conversation with two NTs yesterday, about this precise thing.

I do agree with you in principle, but I think your examples are slightly flawed. They each can be explained in loose terms by logic. For example, door slamming is a replacement for violence which may be caused by the adrenaline produced during an argument.

I must say that not all my actions are entirely rational, but NTs are worse. It can be amusing observing the thought processes though.

How about...
Irrational: looking at the light when the bulb goes
Rational: what do you expect to see?

Irrational: Hitting the buttons over and over for the elevator to come
Rational: Hitting them over and over is not going to make it come any faster.

sometimes, at least where I live, the lights flicker, which can look like one of them went out. If there are multiple bulbs in a light fixture the reduction in light level after one goes out might not be significant enough to tell if a light went out or one just flickered.

unless you're talking about a light that's the only light in the room and it goes out, plunging the room into darkness.

No, but it gives you something to do while you wait.
