Did you ever have a dream where you tried your hardest to wake up or move, but you couldn't? This happens to me sometimes. The room looks exactly as it did when I fell asleep and I try to speak, but I can't. It was one of the scariest things to ever happen to me. 8O

I consulted the great, all-knowing Wikipedia, and I found that this phenomenon is called Sleep Paralysis. During this, your mind becomes aware, but your body still thinks that its asleep. Sometimes people will even see stange creatures or objects In fact, some scientists believe that sleep paralysis can explain some paranormal things. Some people who claim to see ghosts were actually experiencing sleep paralysis at the time.

What do you guys think? Have you ever experienced this before?

I had a dream last night where I was trapped in a lagoon with 40 Pirates and all we had to eat was seaweed.... and that we had to rescue a goldfish from a semi-underwater maze garden built thru several greenhouses covered with water lilies and a "baddie" that burst like a Pinata into pink lollies when we stabbed him with a sword.... very scary stuff 8O

I've experienced sleep paralysis, too. It's frightening. I've never thought I was dreaming when I had them, nor when I've had normal nightmares. I've had sleep paralysis twice. It's not dangerous though. So it's not something you need worry about once you're awake.

I've had my shares of regular nightmares, and sometimes I can't move in them or I can only run in slo-mo. In others I try to scream but can't.

It has happened to me quite a few times. Just the other night, I had a pretty painful leg cramp, and I couldn't move.

I woke up approximately 16 hours ago from a dream that involved being chased down by some people for having a disc of information in my possession that I found and trying to downplay it and get out of the area discretely but failing to do so

it made me wake up but I don't recall feeling discomfort or fear particularly, just an urge to do this or that along the lines of wanting to do things that fear would motivate someone to do

there was something about numerical patterns too but that had something to do with password to get onto the disc or something, being the creator as well as a participant/puppet in the play has an odd effect, no?

I don't recall ever having gotten sleep paralysis but once in a while I do get the falling feeling while laying perfectly still, and my reaction is pretty severe to it, I do however know that I am quite good at avoiding rolling around, unless I'm in a nightmare apparently and then I start to move around quite a bit

I suspect that my mind recognizes this and wakes me up as an immediate failsafe should this occur much because I tend to notice myself moving around while dreaming and then I actually wake up for real

it's a very odd experience being fully conscious of half the events

oh I do suppose sometimes I try to move when I'm very tired and initially it just feels like I've been anesthetized but generally it's an under-reaction first and then I move more normally, sometimes the first attempt to move is a big "lolnope" but I just readjust how I'm going to go about it, "little toe" first style, kinda like how uma thurman does it in killbill

have you ever noticed that focusing on "different parts of your brain" can lead to different skillsets being more prominent at that moment in time ever? I think that's part of it

I've had something similar to it once, but I also felt that something heavy was on my chest and I couldn't breath either. It was scary. 8O
I have other nightmares as well. Hate them.

I've had it. I was sure that there was someone standing next to the bed and I was terrified that I was about to be raped and murdered, but I couldn't move even to open my mouth to scream. But there was no one there; I was just still mostly asleep, that's all.

I have a shoulder that is a bit tender now due to having slept in the wrong position. In addition I have still effects of mallet finger. this made it to my dreams:

I was dreaming that I was going to bed and tried to lie in such a way that my shoulder could rest comfortably. Then I saw that one of my fingers on the healthy hand had become shorter and i worried that it was gonna develop the same problem that my injured finger had. Then my right arm seemed to be loose and someone who was supposed to be my double was lying next to me. (Didn't look exactly like me though). The thing smiled evilly and I tried to fight it but couldn't move. hen it grabbed my arm and tried to beat me with it 8O

I don't get sleep paralysis but my mom does. She says that she tries to scream and hold on to dad, but she can't move. She says it's terrifying. I feel so bad for her. :(

I get that at times. I try to breathe to make sure everything is alright. It's unpleasant.

That's happened to me many times. What's even more scary is when I see a giant black cat peaing at me, with his pea green eyes from on top of me. I can't move at all. There have also been times without the cat that I've tried to wake up repeatedly, and I seemed to wake up in 4 different bedrooms before I woke up in my studio apartment.
