Do you listen to the same piece of music repeatedly?

I was just wondering if other people on the autism spectrum do this. I have Asperger Syndrome and ADHD.

When I find a piece of music that I love, I listen to it over and over again. Without stopping. I just can't stop playing it. I don't play anything else while this is happening and it can go on for a very long time.

I am the same with television programs, films and books.

As an example, there is a program called 'Britain BC'. It is a documentary about what Britain was like before the Roman times. It is about two hours long and I have watched it so many times but just can't stop.

I'm "better" now, but for a period of three or four years recently I would listen to the Beatles song Help! over and over again many thousands of times. When the media player is set to repeat, this song plays three times in about seven minutes, or about twenty-five times an hour. I listened to it literally thousands of times, sometimes even slowing it down to half speed and going to bed with headphones on. I also would play guitar along with it to try to learn how to play this song. More than once I played it four hours in a row (about one hundred times). One time I played along to this song on guitar for six hours straight (a hundred fifty times in a row).

I was filmed in February 2012 riding INDOORS and playing this song. In some ways I am a better musician now than I was even last February when this was filmed, but this is a particularly good version of my rendition of the song and I am very glad this video was filmed and posted on YouTube. It seems since this video was made I haven't played Help! nearly so much.

I studied this song intensely not only from the album and single versions but also the live performances on video. For example in the Blackpool TV show John plays the first chorus with an open G chord, while on the Ed Sullivan show he plays that chord as a barre form on the third fret. Because I practiced this song so much, it seems that other Beatles songs from the same period (mid-1964 to late-1965) are much easier for me to learn now. I recently added I Feel Fine, Ticket to Ride and Tray Dipper (a parody of Day Tripper) to the list of songs I perform at shows now.

Forgive me for posting this video again if you've seen it in other WrongPlanet threads. I am quite partial to this song and this is so far the best video yet that shows the musical and cycling talents of The Bicycling Guitarist.

Of course! When I find something good, I'm not gonna just stop listening. 8)

Yes I do find that on You Tube there are certain songs and music videos that I may listen to more than once per day and it will go on for several weeks or a few months until I find a new favorite song or music video 8)

Yes, I'll listen to a song like 4-5 times in a row.

Tom Waits song, "Tom Traubert's Blues".
I can listen to it over and over, and have since I bought the album back in 1977(?)
I like to listen to the Youtube video where he played it on "The Old Grey Whistle Test."
It's terribly sad and beautiful, and there's nobody doing anything like that these days.

I really only get like that if I get it stuck in my head.

Right now its been alternating between these two. I still think my record though was getting the intro to Gurren Lagaan stuck in my head for about 3 months.

If I find a song that's relative to an issue that I'm dealing with, I'll listen to it five times in a row, three times a day. That could go on for a week.

I'll listen to the same music alot, but discovering new music also is a great thing! Nothing beats listening to a song for the first time, and falling in love with it.

All the time! I have to be careful not to "ruin" artists for future listening.
Currently I can't resist Noah Gundersen's "Nashville". It's been MONTHS. I'm sure I'll manage to ruin it, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

That is why they have 10-hour versions of certain songs.
